TIGERS NEW FACES PROPEL THEM TO VICTORY

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – While head coach Steve French needs to replace two 1000-point scores from last year’s squad, the Tigers are equipped with plenty of familiar faces to help match their production.

Junior Beau Brungard and Senior Clay Medvec are returning starters for the Tigers, but it was two newcomers to the starting lineup who propelled Springfield to their first victory of the season.

Combining for 40 of the Tigers 59 points were center Alex Rothwell and shooting guard RJ Smith. Rothwell had 24 and Smith drained 16 tallies himself.  Rothwell dominated on the glass and in the paint, finishing through contact, converting 2 and-ones. Smith, on the other hand, did most of his damage from beyond the arc, hitting 3 three-pointers on the night.

For the visiting Salem Quakers, it was Drew Weir who did most of the heavy lifting with 21 points. Weir hit 3 three-pointers in the third quarter alone and led the team in scoring for each quarter.  Brock Young chipped in 10 for the Quakers as well.

Although the final score appears close at 59-47, this was always the Tigers game. After jumping out to an early 5-2, Springfield never let it go. Expanding the margin to 8 by the end of the quarter, the Tigers always seemed to have an answer to the Salem Quakers.

RJ Smith – 16 points

Beau Brungard – 8 points

Salem

Drew Weir – 21 points
