SPARTANS FALL ON THE ROAD TO HARDING

WARREN, OH- Boardman continues to plow through the challenging schedule that was put before them prior to the 2021 season.  If you’re judging based on wins and losses, Boardman is still showcasing a winning record, and are keeping games competitive even on the wrong side of the scoreboard.  Unfortunately for Boardman faithful, this was again the case on Friday night against rival Warren Harding in a 21-10 loss.

The Spartans look like a crisp, complete team when they can steer clear of costly penalties and drives that stall out.  The Spartans were penalized on six different occasions worth 45 yards, while the offense started drives, but couldn’t put the finishing touches on, including a drive that ended on the opposing 11-yard line when the Spartans were stopped on fourth and short.

Sean O’Horo toted the rock 23 times for 80 yards on the ground, while Anthony Hightower pulled in 7 passes for 85 yards.  Terence Thomas helped the offense account for 259 yards on the offensive side of the ball including running for 61 yards, himself.

Boardman (4-3) will now look to bounce back against Ursuline on Friday at Stambaugh Stadium.  The game will be broadcast on YSNLive.com

BOARDMAN FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 6) WITH SETH ANTRAM

BOARDMAN, OH – Head coach, Seth Antram and the Boardman Spartans are currently sitting in the nine seed in Region 5 of the Division Two playoffs. The Spartans hit the road in week six as they traveled up to Benedictine but unfortunately fell just short against one of the top teams in the state in division two, 38-20. Up next for Boardman will be another road game as the Spartans will travel to Mollenkopf Stadium to take on the 2-4 Warren G. Harding Raiders on Friday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Antram at Cocca’s Pizza in Canfield this week to discuss the week six game against Benedictine, what some takeaways are that he and his staff have taken away from the season so far, and what his keys to the game are for week seven as a win will put Boardman at 5-2 on the season, and so much more!

This week’s episode of Boardman football coach’s corner with head coach, Seth Antram, is LIVE!

BENEDICTINE FINISHES STRONG TO BEAT SPARTANS

EUCLID OH- It was a close game at the half on Friday night between Boardman and Benedictine. At the break, the Spartans trailed 10-7. However, a flurry of second half points for Benedictine would spell doom for the Spartans. The Bengals outscored Boardman 28-13 in the second half to walk away with a 38-20 win.

Benedictine remains undefeated on the season at 5-0 while Boardman drops to 4-2.

Boardman’s schedule doesn’t get any easier. The Spartans will stay on the road in Week 7 heading to Warren Harding.

CANFIELD NOT TOO PLEASANT TO SPARTANS

CANFIELD OH- Canfield welcomed in Mount Pleasant on Friday for Week 6 action. However, Canfiekd was not a pleasant host to the Spartans as they dominated them in a 35-7 win.

Broc Lawry continued to put together impressive performances. He threw the ball extremely well, and spread the ball out to a multitude of receivers. Lawry found Toby Smith for a touchdown. Smith and his fellow teammates on defense held down the Spartans offense for just 7 points the whole game.

It will be a big test next for the Cardinals as they host Austintown Fitch in Week 7.

BOARDMAN BOYS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH ERIC SIMIONE

BOARDMAN OH- The Boardman boys soccer team pulled off what might have been the biggest win in their program’s history on Tuesday night. They went into to Howland, after suffering their first loss of the season, and beat the Tigers 4-2. The win snapped a regular season winning streak for Howland that dates back to 2018. The Tigers were ranked first in the state, and had only been scored on once all season.

Boardman head coach Eric Simione took time out of his work day to hop on to YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about the team’s big win. They discuss what the mentality was, how they keep the momentum going, and much more. You don’t want to miss this exclusive conversation with coach Simione in Episode 2 of Boardman Boys Soccer Coach’s Corner.

SPARTANS SHOCK THE SOCCER WORLD AND SNAP HOWLAND’S STREAK

BOARDMAN OH- Howland soccer had not lost a regular season game since 2018 coming in to Tuesday’s match with Boardman. The streak spanned 42 games. They were also on a 27 game winning streak regular, and postseason combined. The Spartans put an end to all of that with a stunning 4-2 win over the Tigers.

Howland had not been scored upon yet the entire season, but Boardman had a great game plan and executed it. Goals were scored for Boardman by Landon Mitchell, Ian McGavin, Logan Thompson, and Cole Congson. Assists went to Congson, and AJ Barber.

Howland goals were notched by Fernando Ramos Jr, and Pasquale Carannante. Nicholas Durig picked up an assist.

Both teams will be on the road on Thursday as Boardman will travel to Badger, and Howland will try to start a new streak traveling to Fitch.
