ZINES SOARS TO COLUMBUS

HARTVILLE OH- United’s Mati Zines made the trip to the Division II Northeast District Girls Golf Tournament at Sable Creek Golf Course in Hartville looking to continue her momentum this postseason.

The Eagles junior did more than maintain momentum as she took home medalist honors for the second consecutive postseason tournament posting a round of 77 becoming the first United female golfer to qualify for the state tournament.

It was not smooth sailing early for Zines as she carded a front 9 score of 41 which included a triple bogey on the 9th hole. Entering the turn she found herself trailing three other competitors including the defending state champion Ella Wong from Gates Mills. Always the competitor, Mati quickly erased that 9th hole from her memory as she set out and carded a 1 over 36 on the back 9. The finish for Zines would put her into a tie with Ravenna’s Abbie Retherford and the district title was headed to a playoff. Both players would begin the playoff recording par on the 10th hole. Zines would go on to birdie the Par 3 145 yd 11th hole to claim the District title and punch her ticket to Columbus.

Zines on her accomplishment ” Achieving this goal means all the hard work that I have put into my game has finally paid off. My goal was to qualify for state, but along the way I won the Sectional and District titles, so I not only accomplished that goal, I crushed it.”  Zines looks to continue crushing her list of career goals as she heads to the Division II State Golf Tournament held October 14-15 on the Gray Course at The Ohio State University.
