The senior guard has been instrumental in the Potters’ successful season, showcasing skill, leadership, and an unwavering dedication to his team.

In the latest episode of YSN’s “Power Hour” podcast, host DJ Yokley caught up with Pease to discuss his preparation, achievements, and aspirations. Over the summer, he focused on improving his skills and conditioning, adding ten pounds of muscle and honing his shooting accuracy.

“I put in a lot of work over the summer, from skills training to the weight room. My goal was to be a winning program and aim for a championship,” Pease shared during the podcast.

Pease’s selfless nature and team-first mentality have gained him respect both on and off the court. When teammate Nate broke the school record with 11 three-pointers, Pease was among the first to congratulate him, exemplifying the strong camaraderie within the team. As he looks to the future, Pease has already garnered interest from several Division III colleges and is eager to continue his athletic career at the collegiate level, although he has yet to make a final decision.

For now, Cohen Pease remains focused on leading East Liverpool through a memorable season, embodying the spirit and determination that make him a standout both on the court and in the community.

WESTERN RESERVE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 6) WITH JOHN ARMENI

BERLIN CENTER, OH- On the latest episode of the YSN podcast, “The Devil’s Hour,” host Billy Cappabianca sat down with esteemed coach John Armeni at Ben’s restaurant on 224. Taking the place of regular host Christopher Colucci, Cappabianca seized the opportunity to delve into the insights and strategies that define Armeni’s coaching career.

During the discussion, Cappabianca posed a question many have pondered: why does Coach Armeni take so long to address his team post-game? Armeni’s response was clear; with teenagers, messages often need repetition. “You have to tell them things four, five, six times,” Armeni explained, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and growth, especially after lackluster performances.

The conversation ventured beyond football into the broader life lessons the sport imparts. Armeni and Cappabianca agreed on the value of adversity in shaping character. “That’s the great thing about sports,” Cappabianca noted, while Armeni added, “Nothing teaches you life quite like football.”

Armeni’s dedication extends beyond the field. Cappabianca highlighted Armeni’s influence on students, including his daughter, Angelina. Armeni’s consistency as both a teacher and coach won praise for molding positive influences in young lives, whether in class or on the gridiron.

The episode also touched on Armeni’s coaching journey and the contributions of his predecessors, Mike Capache and Coach Haken, to transforming the Western Reserve football program. “The stands are consistently full,” Cappabianca remarked, crediting Armeni for rejuvenating the community’s passion for football.

Armeni’s support for multi-sport athletes and his collaborative approach with other coaches further underline his holistic coaching philosophy. “In a small school atmosphere, you have to all be on the same page,” Armeni asserted, advocating for a cooperative dynamic across all sports.

As the episode drew to a close, Armeni reflected on his passion for teaching and coaching. “The moment you can help a young person to that ‘I got it’ moment is a really special feeling,” he shared, underscoring his commitment to the process of learning and personal development.

“The Devil’s Hour” delivered an insightful look into Coach Armeni’s methods and philosophies, leaving listeners with a deeper appreciation for the man behind the team’s success.

TO THE VICTOR COME THE SPOILS

PEPPER PIKE, OH-  In the latest episode of the YSN podcast, the spotlight shone on Orange High School’s sophomore wrestling sensation, Victor Kangas. The young athlete sat down with host DJ Yokley for an in-depth interview, discussing his goals for his sophomore year, his growth as a wrestler, and his plans for the future.

Kangas expressed his desire to be more of a leader on the mat this year, especially for the incoming freshmen wrestlers. With a year of experience under his belt, Kangas believes that he can provide guidance and support to the younger members of the team.

Reflecting on his challenging freshman year, Kangas revealed that he endured countless beatings in practice due to being the lightest weight class wrestler. Facing opponents who were always heavier and stronger than him, Kangas credits these difficult experiences for developing his mental toughness and improving his skills on the mat.

Despite the grueling nature of the sport, Kangas has embraced the discipline and dedication that wrestling requires. He emphasized the importance of pushing oneself during practices, acknowledging that they may never become easier, but they ultimately contribute to becoming a better athlete.

Kangas discovered his passion for wrestling in eighth grade, even though he was unable to compete due to a broken hand. Watching his teammates practice and witnessing the tight bond they shared made him realize that he wanted to be a part of this team sport.

Off the mat, Kangas expressed his appreciation for his family’s unwavering support. His parents, often driving long distances to attend his meets, are always there cheering him on. The young wrestler recognizes their presence as a tremendous source of motivation and comfort.

When asked about his post-match rituals, Kangas humorously admitted that food is typically the first thing on his mind. He fondly recalled indulging in skittles, which became his go-to snack due to their availability at the meets. But beyond the snacks, Kangas experiences a rush of excitement after a win and a drive to improve if he suffers a loss.

Looking towards his future, Kangas expressed an interest in pursuing a trade after graduation. Exploring fields such as welding, he hopes to find a career that allows him to work with his hands and avoid the confines of a traditional desk job.

When he’s not wrestling, Kangas enjoys spending time with his friends, some of whom are also on the wrestling team. Additionally, he finds solace and entertainment in playing video games, though he admits that his current favorite game is constantly changing.

As Victor Kangas continues to showcase his talent and dedication on the wrestling mat, the Orange High School community eagerly anticipates his leadership and contributions to the success of the team in the years to come. Best of luck to this rising star as he strives towards his goals and makes his mark in the world of wrestling.
