WARRIORS SWEEP SATURDAY TWIN BILL

BELOIT OH- West Branch came into Saturday’s double header with Boardman already carrying an impressive offense. In 2 games against Alliance, and Carrolton the Warriors had scored 25 runs. They didn’t slow down at all Saturday afternoon with two impressive offensive performances to sweep the double header. They won game one 9-8, and game two 7-3.

GAME 1

Boatdman jumped out to an early lead to start off the day. They started Tori Strines in the circle and she kept the Warriors offense down for a good amount of time.  They took an 8-2 lead into the 5th inning. Then an RBI groundout by Sydney Mercer in the fifth ended up sparking an incredible comeback the next inning. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth six straight Warriors reached base and they scored 6 runs to take a 9-8 lead. Skyler Greeneisen’s RBI double gave the Warriors the lead. Riley Pittman would put down the Spartans in order in the 7th to secure the win.

Greeneisen went 4-4 in the game and knocked in 3 RBI. Mercer went 1-3 with 2 RBI and scored 2 runs. Ragan Greeneisen also knocked in 2 runs on a 1-4 day. Josie Milliken went 3-4 with a RBI and 3 runs scored.

Maddie Lester went 2-4 with 3 RBI for the Spartans. Strines had a great day at the plate going 3-4 with 2 RBI. Cassidy Bryon went 3-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

GAME 2:

After two scoreless innings, once again Boardman struck first. Josie Porter scored on an error after Dana Haus flew out. Then, Lester hit a RBI single to make it 2-0. However the Warriors would not be kept down. In the bottom of the inning Skyler Greeneisen hit a three run bomb to put the Warriors up 4-2. They would never surrender that lead either. Tori McKay took it from there in the circle. Holding Boardman to one run the rest of the game while the Warriors tacked on three more. They’d win game 2 for the sweep of the day 7-3.

Mercer had a good showing at the plate going 2-3 with a pair of RBI. Skyler Greeneisen went a combined 6-8 on the day with a 2-4 game two. She knocked in another 3 RBI.

McKay battled a strong Spartans offense giving up only 3 earned runs over 7.0 IP. She struck out 2 and walked 1.

Lester continued her strong day going 3-4 with a RBI. In her first action of the day, Josie Porter went 2-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Samantha Hoffman went 2-3 in game two with a run scored.

West Branch will be off until Thursday when they’ll host EBC rival Salem. Boardman opens up league play Monday as they host Canfield.
