WELCOME TO THE WESTERN RESERVE BROOM COMPANY

By Ty Bartell

BERLIN CENTER OH- For the third time in as many days The Western-Reserve Blue Devils engaged in an inner
conference battle with a fellow Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC) Scarlet Division member. After defeating, and sweeping, the likes of The Jackson-Milton Blue Jays and The Lowellville Rockets on Tuesday and Wednesday, The Blue Devils were set to square-off with The Springfield Tigers on Thursday.

Both teams had more than respectable records prior to their Thursday meeting. With The Tigers at a 5-2 clip and Western-Resrve a perfect 7-0. The Blue Devils came out of the gates flexing early, capturing a 25-13 opening set win. If you thought things couldn’t get more dominant, then think again! Kicking the amps up to eleven, Western-Resrve rolled their way to a 25-7 set two victory. The more things change the more they stay the same, as Springfield provided more fight in the third set, but to no avail. Managing a 25-15 set win and a straight set sweep, The Blue Devils broke out the brooms against another conference opponent! Their fifth conference sweep of the season and seventh sweep overall!

Big performers included Alyvia Hughes who recorded 17 kills to lead the team. While “The Ice Queen” lived up to her nickname, as Izzy Mauro was stone-cold at the net with 8 blocks and 4 kills of her own. Ally Jones had another great outing defensively, racking up 15 digs in the match. Lisa Eichert was involved in multiple stat categories with 11 kills, 4 aces and 3 blocks! While Haylee Fellows got it done both on the floor and behind the service line with 21 assist and 3 aces.

Springfield (5-3) will look to get back on track as they head back home to entertain Ursuline (8-0) who is 24-0 in sets, on Monday, September 11th at 7 p.m.! While

Western-Reserve (8-0) will look to keep the train rolling as it will be chuggin on the road to Cardinal Mooney (3-4) also on Monday
