RESERVE ONE STEP CLOSER

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve took a commanding step towards the MVAC championship with a dominating 13-3 victory over Waterloo on Thursday night.

The Western Reserve offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Sophia Reigle who went 2-for-3 with an impressive 5 RBIs, a walk, and 2 runs scored. Katie Byers contributed with a 1-for-2 performance, driving in 2 RBIs and drawing 2 walks, while Caylee Selley went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Maylin Hartzel also chipped in, going 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and Allison Jones had a stellar game, going 3-for-4 and crossing the plate 3 times.

On the mound, Katie Byers was stellar for Western Reserve, pitching a complete game of 5 innings, allowing only 4 hits and no earned runs while racking up an impressive 9 strikeouts.

Despite the loss, Waterloo showed resilience at the plate. Taryn Brown led the offense going 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs, followed by Morgan Sweitzer who went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Savannah Francis also contributed with an RBI.

BLUE DEVILS PROD WELLSVILLE

LISBON, OH- Lisbon rolled to a convincing 14-3 win over Wellsville on Thursday, thanks to some heavy lifting from the bottom of their lineup. Carter Oliver, Logan Sturgeon, and Marc Moore turned the game around, combining for five of Lisbon’s 10 hits, scoring four runs, and driving in four.

Wellsville initially took the lead with a two-run wild pitch in the first inning, and they tacked on another run in the second when Tyler was hit by a pitch.

Lisbon quickly turned things around in the bottom of the second. Moore, Oliver, and a dropped third strike brought in a total of four runs, pushing Lisbon ahead 5-3. They didn’t let up, adding more runs in the third off a passed ball and another RBI single from Moore.

The fourth inning saw Lisbon break the game wide open, scoring five runs from hits by Ryan Carpenter, Aiden Myers, Bryce Esarey, Sturgeon, and another double from Moore.

Sturgeon picked up the win, pitching three and two-thirds innings of no-hit ball, striking out five. Myers started the game for Lisbon, and despite a rocky start, the team bounced back. Richie, Wellsville’s starter, struggled through four innings, allowing 13 runs, but only eight were earned.

Moore was the standout for Lisbon, going three-for-three at the plate. Oliver and Esarey also contributed significantly, each with two RBIs. Lisbon showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, with Gage Owens and Carpenter each walking twice. The team was aggressive on the bases, stealing eight in total.

Defensively, Lisbon was solid, committing no errors with Carpenter getting the most action with six fielding chances.

Lisbon’s next challenge is a game against East this Friday.

BLUE JAYS BREAK LOOSE

NORTH JACKSON OH- Jackson Milton showcased their dominance on Wednesday as they cruised to a 10-0 victory over rivals Western Reserve.

The Jackson Milton offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Drew Sloan, who went 2-2 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk. James Croyle added to the offensive onslaught with a hit and 2 RBI, while Dominic Krol contributed with a 2-3 performance, including a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Cayden Mitchell and Jaidyn Henry also had solid outings, each collecting 2 hits and scoring runs.

On the mound, Landon Workman was outstanding, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 8 batters in 5 innings of work.

Western Reserve struggled to generate offense against Workman and the Jackson Milton defense.

With this convincing win, Jackson Milton asserted their dominance over their rivals, showcasing both their offensive firepower and pitching prowess.

RESERVE OFFENSE SHOWS OFF

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Western Reserve showcased their power and dominance as they overwhelmed Springfield, securing a sweep in the MVAC with a resounding 19-1 victory on Tuesday.

The Western Reserve offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Lindsay Jones, who went 3-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Caylee Selley was unstoppable, going a perfect 5-5 at the plate with 5 RBI and 2 runs scored. Sophia Reigle contributed with 3 walks, 3 RBI, and 1 run scored, while Maylin Hartzel and Mikayla Salonich added to the onslaught with multiple hits and runs scored.

In the circle, Hartzel was stellar, pitching a complete game, allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 3 batters in 5 innings of work.

Springfield struggled to contain Western Reserve’s powerful offense and was unable to keep up with their relentless attack.

With this win, Western Reserve completed the sweep over Springfield in the MVAC, showcasing their strength and determination as they continue their winning streak in conference play.

TIGERS ROLL ON TO SERIES SWEEP OF RESERVE

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield completed a league sweep over Western Reserve on Tuesday, defeating the Blue Devils 9-4 at home.

The Springfield offense was led by Payton Novak, who drove in 2 runs on his 1-2 performance. Kolten Ruark contributed with a 1-2 showing, adding 2 walks, 1 RBI, and scoring 2 runs. Alec Fusco and Ryan Maughan each added an RBI, with Fusco going 1-3 and scoring a run, and Maughan going 1-2 with a walk and scoring a run.

On the mound, Ruark was impressive, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 4 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out 10 batters.

Western Reserve’s offense was led by Evan Slaven, who drove in a run and reached base twice with a hit and a walk. Hunter Taylor scored a run on his 1-3 performance, and Brock Wellman added 2 runs scored, reaching base with a hit and a walk.

Despite their efforts, Western Reserve couldn’t overcome Springfield’s strong pitching and timely hitting.

With this win, Springfield completed the league sweep over Western Reserve, solidifying their dominance in the series.

BLUE DEVILS COMEBACK AND WALK IT OFF

MCDONALD OH- In a thrilling matchup on Tuesday night, McDonald softball found themselves in a battle against Mineral Ridge, needing to mount a comeback from a 4-0 deficit to secure a walk-off victory in extras, winning 5-4.

McDonald’s offense showed resilience as they fought their way back into the game. Isabella O’Brien led the charge, going 3-5 at the plate with 2 crucial RBIs, including the game-winning single in extra innings. Aubrey Evans also contributed with a 3-4 performance, driving in a run. Bri McCombs and Gianna Mancini added RBIs of their own, while Miley Titus went 1-4 and scored 2 runs.

On the mound, Isabella O’Brien stepped up in relief, pitching 4 innings of stellar ball, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out 8 Mineral Ridge batters. Bri McCombs also pitched well, going 4 innings and striking out 4, despite giving up 4 runs on 4 hits.

Mineral Ridge put up a strong fight, with Aaliyah Wall leading the offense with a 2-4 performance and scoring a run. Sydney Wylie and Lily Merolillo also contributed with hits, while Maddie Gerberry and Maggie Collins each drove in a run.

Mineral Ridge’s pitching put up a solid effort, with the team combining for 7.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 4 McDonald batters.

In the end, McDonald’s comeback effort paid off, securing them a hard-fought victory over Mineral Ridge in extra innings. The win showcased McDonald’s determination and ability to rally when facing adversity, further solidifying their position as a competitive force in their league.

MCDONALD NOT MESSING AROUND

MINERAL RIDGE OH- McDonald came out swinging on Monday night, delivering a resounding 21-0 victory over a quality Mineral Ridge team.

The McDonald offense was firing on all cylinders, with standout performances from Kayla Helco, Lauren O’Leary, Isabella O’Brien, Bri McCombs, Gianna Mancini, and Marissa Colarich. Helco went 2-4 with 4 RBI, while O’Leary contributed 3 RBI, 1 walk, and scored 4 runs. O’Brien showed her power with a home run, 3 RBI, and 4 runs scored, while McCombs and Mancini each collected 3 hits and multiple RBI. Colarich added to the onslaught with 3 hits, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored.

On the mound, O’Brien was untouchable, pitching a flawless game. In her 5 innings of work, she didn’t allow a single hit, recorded 11 strikeouts, and only issued 1 walk, securing a no-hitter for McDonald.

McDonald’s dominant performance showcased their strength as a team and their ability to compete at a high level. They were relentless both at the plate and on the mound, leaving Mineral Ridge with no chance to counter.

O’BRIEN AT HER BEST

MCDONALD OH- Meet Isabella “Bella” O’Brien, the senior pitcher for McDonald’s dominant softball team. With her steady presence in the circle, she’s been a cornerstone of the Blue Devils’ success in Division 4.

Bella’s journey to becoming an elite pitcher has been marked by her extreme work ethic. She’s put in countless hours honing her craft, constantly striving to improve and refine her skills. Her dedication to her game has paid off, as she’s evolved into a pitcher who consistently delivers top-notch performances for her team.

One of Bella’s most impressive qualities is her mental toughness. Softball is a game of highs and lows, but Bella never seems phased by the inevitable challenges that come her way. Whether facing tough opponents or dealing with the pressure of crucial moments, she remains cool, calm, and collected on the mound, a trait that inspires confidence in her teammates.

As a leader, Bella plays a pivotal role in guiding the Blue Devils towards their goals. With McDonald aiming to repeat as district champions and secure another MVAC title, Bella’s leadership both on and off the field is invaluable. Her teammates look up to her for guidance and inspiration, knowing that she’ll always give her all to lead them to victory.

LISBON LOCKS DOWN COWBOYS

LISBON, OH- Brady Carpenter turned in a stellar pitching performance, striking out 12 batters to lead the Lisbon Blue Devils to a commanding 6-1 win over Chaney.

Carpenter was in control from the start, allowing just two hits and a single run across seven innings, issuing only a couple of walks along the way.

The Devils wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the very first inning, Aiden Myers made it count by grounding out to bring in the opening run. While the Devils’ bats were active, it was Carpenter who stood out not only on the mound but also at the plate. He went 2-for-3 and drove in two crucial runs, helping his own cause and bolstering the team’s lead.

On the opposing side, Johnson struggled with the Devils’ lineup. The Chaney starter was pulled after four and a third innings, during which he surrendered five runs, but only two were earned due to some fielding missteps. He managed to rack up five strikeouts and walked one.

Alongside Carpenter, Marc Moore and Ryan Carpenter each notched two hits. Moore showed off his speed, stealing two bases as part of a total of four steals by the team, which kept the pressure on Chaney throughout the game.

Chaney did manage to scrape together a run thanks to Moon, who drove in their lone run and was one of just two Chaney players, alongside Polk, to hit safely against Carpenter’s dominant outing.

Looking ahead, the Devils are set to face Wellsville on Wednesday to finish the season series.

RESERVE BREAKS THROUGH AGAINST MCDONALD

Western Reserve built a 6-run lead in the seventh inning and then held off McDonald’s charge for an 8-6 victory on Tuesday.  McDonald closed the gap by scoring on a single and a double.

Chloeigh Ensdley collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Ensdley singled in the seventh inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the second inning.

The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. They first got on the board when Lindsay Jones singled, scoring one run. They opened it up and scored five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. Jones hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Katie Byers doubled, scoring one run, Sophia Reigle doubled, scoring one run, and Ensdley singled, scoring two runs.

Byers earned the win for Western Reserve. The righty surrendered 11 hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking none. Bella Obrien took the loss for McDonald. The starting pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking two.

The Blue Devils piled up 14 hits in the game. Ensdley and Allison Jones each collected three hits. Caylee Selley, Aubrey Kutsko, and Byers each collected multiple hits.

McDonald tallied 11 hits in the game. Obrien drove the middle of the lineup, leading with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Lauren Oleary went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits. McDonald turned one double play in the game. McDonald was also sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Oleary had the most chances in the field with nine.
