YOUNGSTOWN REIGNS AGAIN AS WORLD CHAMPIONS
LOREDO TX- After a couple of one run games in a row, Youngstown easily dispatched Monterrey, Mexico on Tuesday at Uni-Trade Stadium, 10-4 to secure a Palomino World Series Championship.
Youngstown got on the board in the top of the first inning after Monterrey committed an error, and Owen Henne singled, each scoring one run.
Monterrey captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the first after Gael Zenni doubled, and Juan Quintnilla singled, each scoring two runs.
Youngstown took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Austin Lafferty scored after tagging up, and Jack Lutte stole home, each scoring one run.
Youngstown scored five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. Henne singled, scoring one run, Gino Lazzari singled, scoring one run, Andrew Capizzi singled, scoring one run, Lafferty doubled, scoring one run, and AJ Havrilla singled, scoring one run.
Ryan Apaliski stepped on the hill first for Youngstown. They allowed five hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking eight. Evon Lozano led things off on the bump for Monterrey. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs (zero earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking two.
Youngstown piled up 12 hits in the game. Havrilla and Henne each collected three hits to lead the way. Havrilla went 3-for-5 at the plate as the infielder led the team with two runs batted in. Antonio Cordeiro and Lafferty also collected multiple hits for Youngstown. Ben Slanker paced Youngstown with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Lafferty and Lutte each stole multiple bases. Youngstown was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Lutte had the most chances in the field with seven.
