AUSTINTOWN STAYS ON TOP OF THE DISTRICT

BOARDMAN OH- Ava Fisher was clutch, driving in four runs on two hits to lead Austintown to a 9-1 romp over Canfield on Monday, clinching their second straight district title. Fisher’s bat was hot, knocking in two runs with a single in the second and another two with a single in the fourth.

Austintown got the scoring going in the first, capitalizing on a Canfield error and a passed ball. The second inning saw Fisher’s first big hit, bringing in two runs. Austintown kept the pressure on in the third, with Mila Hamley’s double adding to the lead.

Hamley started strong in the circle, tossing two hitless, scoreless innings with four K’s and no walks. Klara Edenfield took the mound for Canfield, giving up 11 hits and nine runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Annabel Mikesell came in for Austintown, pitching two innings of no-run ball, striking out five and walking three.

Austintown tallied 11 hits, with Gracie Faunda, Fisher, and Mikesell each picking up two. Kylee Krits led Canfield with two walks, and the team showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks overall.
