BARONS SCORE IN BUNCHES

STRUTHERS OH- 3B Barons defeated Avalanche, 8-4, on Sunday in 18U action after jumping out to an early lead, which they were able to sit on all the way to the very end.

The Barons came out of the gates swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI triple from Mike Delduca that scored two and a sac fly from Nate Thomas to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Avalanche answered back to start the second inning, scoring three runs of their own following an RBI double from Drew Gault that scored two and an RBI single from Nick Solderich to tie the game at 3-3.

The tie would be short lived, as Corbin Sevcik immediately responded with an RBI single to give the Barons the lead back in the bottom of the second.

Two plate appearances later, Luke Anderton hit an RBI single as well that scored two runs to give the Barons a comfortable 6-3 lead through two innings.

After an uneventful third inning, Maddox Bell hit an RBI single at the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 6-4, but the Barons answered yet again following an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-4 lead.

The Barons scored another run in the fifth inning following an error to take an 8-4 lead, and would sit on it for the rest of the game.

Nick Parrotto picked up the win on the mound for the Barons, allowing only four runs on eight hits. He also threw four strikeouts and did not allow a single walk through five innings.

Corbin Sevcik recorded the save following an outstanding job in relief, allowing no runs on only one hit in the final two innings.

Drew Gault shined for the Avalanche despite the loss, going 2-3 at the plate with a double, single, and 2 RBIs, and made multiple great plays on defense.
