BOARDMAN GETS BEST OF CLIPPERS

BOARDMAN, OH- Columbiana (1-1) traveled to Boardman (1-3) on Saturday afternoon falling 4-3 to the Spartans.

Boardman jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but the Clippers quickly responded in the 2nd.  Seth Spooner led off with a single.  Riley McElwain then doubled to left putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs.  After a strikeout, Spooner would score on a Carson Dota groundout and McElwain would cross the plate when Tyler Andersen reached on an error.

Columbiana tied the game in the 3rd when McElwain knocked in Logan Hoschar on a single to left.  Boardman took the lead for good in the 4th frame scoring on an RBI groundout.

Both McElwain and Spooner had two hits on the day.  Brady Dixon had the Clippers other hit, while Logan Hoschar walked twice.

McElwain (1-1) was also excellent on the mound despite taking the loss.  He pitched 5 strong innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) allowing 5 hits and striking out 10.  Freshman Alex Eusebio pitched a scoreless 6th in his first varsity action.

Columbiana returns to the diamond on Monday as the Clippers head to Next Level to take on East Palestine in EOAC action.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
