CANFIELD KEEPS ON WINNING

BELOIT, Ohio

Ryan Petro tossed 5 innings of no-hit baseball to keep the Canfield Cardinals (15-0) perfect record intact with a 10-0 victory over the West Branch Warriors (13-7).

In what could be a possible district final matchup, the Canfield Cardinals came off the busses swinging. After a 4 pitch walk by Josh Juliano to start the day, singles off the bats of Dom Magliocca and Ben Slanker would bring the leadoff hitter Juliano around to score, giving Canfield a lead they would never relinquish.

Already ahead, the Canfield Cardinals exploded in the 2nd inning of play to firmly take control of the game. After a single and two walks to start the inning, the bases were loaded for Magliocca. The righty center fielder would deliver with a single to left field to bring across one. With the bases still jammed, AJ Havrilla would then walk on 4 straight pitches to put the Cardinals out in front 3-0.

Not stopping their big inning there, Landon Beidelchies would smoke one down the third base line for a standup two run double. With a walk to load the bases again, the Warriors were forced to make a pitching change. Garrison Martin would come in and immediately strikeout the first batter he faced before giving up a 2 RBI single off the bat of Nate Shaw.

With a firm 7-0 lead, starting pitcher Ryan Petro felt no pressure and was free to let it fly. After surrendering a walk in his first inning of work, Petro wouldn’t allow another Warrior to reach base until the bottom of the 4th inning, again on a walk.

From there the righty stayed perfect, striking out 2 of the last 5 outs for a grand total of 4 strikeouts on the day, all while never allowing a single hit.

While Petro kept the Warriors offense at bay, the Cardinals were able to plate 2 runs in the 3rd as well as another in the 5th, giving them a 10-0 whitewash victory over West Branch.
