CANFIELD USES FAST START TO JUMP AHEAD OF HOWLAND

CANFIELD OH- On a cold Tuesday evening in Canfield two of the areas top teams got together in an important AAC matchup.  It didn’t take long for Canfield to warm up as they scored 6 runs in the first two innings. That was more than enough for Malena Toth to coast through the rest of the game. Although the Cardinals offense was held in check after that, they still got the game 1 win 7-1.

One of the big hits in the first inning that busted things open was a two run home run that went to the tennis courts by Leah Figueroa. She finished 1-3 with 2 RBI.  Toth helped out her own cause at the plate knocking in a run going 1-3.  Sydney Lutz was perfect at the plate for Canfield in the bottom of the order going 1-1 with a walk, a run scored, and a RBI.

Howland finally got the offense going a little bit in the sixth. Even though they were down by too much to come back, they put together a string of solid bass hits against the Cardinals’ ace.  A two out double by Brooke Tatar started the rally. Kayla Campbell knocked her in with a hit, and then she was followed by a base hit from Lexi Spangler.  Spangler was the only hitter of the night on either side that had multiple hits going 2-3.

The two teams will meet up in Howland for game 2 of the AAC series on Wednesday at 5:00.
