LISBON BLUE DEVILS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 1) WITH CHRIS HUCKSHOLD

LISBON, OH – Coming off a two big wins in EOAC play last week, head coach Chris Huckshold and the Lisbon Blue Devils are off to an 8-2 start overall but 5-0 in conference play so far in the 2020-2021 basketball regular season. The Blue Devils have been playing solid basketball and seem to be hitting their stride as they will look to continue their winning ways in three big match ups this week. Up first for Lisbon is a home game against Western Reserve on Tuesday, then the Blue Devils will hit the road on Friday to take on Valley Christian in EOAC play, followed by a home game against Southern on Saturday as that will complete the first half of the conference schedule for Lisbon.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Huck this week via video chat to discuss last week’s match ups and preview what is in front of the Blue Devils this week, how he and his staff has handled this “special” COVID season, what the senior leadership has meant to this team, and much much more!

SALEM GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH SARAH HAMILTON

SALEM, OH- There is a lot of tradition around the halls of Salem High School in the girl’s sports programs, and especially when it comes to basketball, and with that said, The Lady Quakers are being led in 2020-2021 by one of the players that helped write those history books years ago.

Add to the challenges that already exist for a first-year coach, Salem goes through their third round of quarantining in this season alone.  With all that said, Hamilton and the Quakers have forged their way to a 7-2 record overall, and already have some significant wins that should put them in a solid place come tournament time.

We caught up with Coach Hamilton to discuss the state of Salem, as well as some of the unique circumstances she’s had to navigate from the front of the ship.

MCDONALD, OH – The McDonald Blue Devils boys basketball team is finally getting things underway this season after a county-wide shutdown and head coach, James Franceschelli, could not be more excited! Coach Franceschelli is in his first season as head coach of the Blue Devils and he is looking to continue the success and tradition of McDonald basketball. The Blue Devils will open up the season on Wednesday, December 23rd, at 7pm, as they will take on the Valley Christian Eagles.

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve has gotten themselves off to an undefeated start to the 2020 season, and not too many people are surprised by that. The Blue Devils are widely considered one of the top programs in the area this season. They have already made a statement victory earlier this season with a win over Dalton. A new test awaits them Saturday as they travel to Doylestown Chippewa.

SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH JEFF FISHEL

CANFIELD OH- South Range has picked up two more wins since the last time we have caught up with head coach Jeff Fishel. The Raiders completed a comeback win over Ursuline, where they had to face some adversity, and then the Raiders got their second win of the conference season with a victory over Jefferson. The Raiders have no time to rest, they have maybe their biggest challenge of the season on Saturday as they will host Akron Hoban, a division 1 team that will have a dramatic size advantage,

Coach Fishel caught up with Anthony Hartwig to talk about the state of the Lady Raiders. They discuss the upcoming test against Hoban, and what is the best Christmas gift Coach Fishel has ever gotten? Find the answers to that and more in Episode 3 of Coach’s Corner with Jeff Fishel.
