Coach Shane O’Brien and the Edison Wildcats welcomed the Oak Glen Golden Bears to town last Friday night but unfortunately fell just a bit short. Like always, this is a new week, and for Coach O, his Wildcats will hit the road and travel to East Liverpool for a great week seven match up with the Potters.

YSN’s Ty Ward, caught up with Coach O’Brien this week to talk Wildcats football and to see what his takeaways from the Oak Glen game were but also his outlook is as the 2019 football season begins to wrap up.

CHANEY FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 7) WITH CHRIS AMILL

Coming off a heartbreaking, one point loss in week six to the Ursuline Irish, Coach Chris Amill and the Chaney Cowboys are looking to bounce back, in a big way in, in week seven. The ‘Boys will once again hit the road as they will travel up to Hunting Valley, Ohio, to take on the University School Preppers.

YSN’s general manager, Steve Leslie, sat down with Coach Amill this week to talk about what he and his staff took away from last week’s match up but also, what Cowboys have to do to get back to their winning ways, starting in week seven.

Coach Reardon and the Ursuline Fighting Irish are feeling great after their first victory of the season! The Irish hosted the Chaney Cowboys in week six and scrapped their way to a 27-26 victory. Week seven will see the Irish travel down to Columbus to take on the Eagles of Bishop Watterson.

The amazing Steve Leslie, sat down with Coach Reardon to get his take on their first victory of the season but also to see what his outlook is moving forward starting in week seven.

Week six saw Coach P.J. Fecko and the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals play host to the East High Golden Bears. The Cardinals battled all night long and came out with a 38-13 victory. Week seven will keep the Cards at home as they play the Louisville Leopards at Stambaugh Stadium.

When one of the top teams in the state come to play, everyone watches and wants to be a part of that game, that happened in week six for Coach Jon Elliot and the Austintown Fitch Falcons as they welcomed the #2 Massillon Washington Tigers to town. Unfortunately for Coach Elliot, the Tigers were just too much to handle as the Falcons fell short. Up next for the Falcons will be a match up with the Bishop Hartley Hawks in week seven.

YSN’s legendary general manager, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to sit down with Coach Elliot to talk about what he and his staff took away from the Massillon Washington game, as well as, what the Falcons will be looking to accomplish come Friday night against the Hawks.

SALEM FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 7) WITH RON JOHNSON

Week six saw Coach Ron Johnson and his undefeated Salem Quakers put their winning streak on the line in a road matchup

against the Marlington Dukes. Unfortunately, the Quakes fell just short and suffered their first loss of the season. Week seven will not be an easy test either for Coach Johnson’s team as they hit the road and travel to Alliance to take on the Aviators.

YSN’s Jarrod Niederhiser caught up with Coach Johnson to discuss the winning streak, what he and his staff took away from the Marlington game, and also what the Quakes need to do to get back to their winning ways against Alliance.

POLAND VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP4 WITH MARTINA DINELLO)

It’s been a tough stretch for Poland in the last week since we’ve talked to coach DiNello. They’ve went 1-3 with losses to Girard, Lakeview, and Hubbard. Girard and Lakeview are the top two teams in the league and the coach admits it’s a tough time to play them at the very end of the season. Fighting through mental and physical fatigue she just wants her team to focus on consistency.

EXCLUSIVE COACH’S CORNER: MIKE TOMCZAK

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Our Coach’s Corners on YSN allow fans to get to know the leaders of student-athletes a little bit better with in-depth, long-format interviews.  YSN’s DJ Yokley was afforded the special opportunity to interview one of his childhood heroes, Mike Tomczak, who now coaches at Youngstown State.

Tomczak is a 14-year veteran of the NFL who spent time with Cleveland, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, and was a part of the Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears.  Lately, as a coach, Tomczak has served as an offensive coordinator with the AFL’s Pittsburgh Power before making his way to Youngstown.

The longtime quarterback has been in many roles throughout his career, from starting to reserve, but has learned along the way at each stop.

We caught up with the former Steeler, Brown, Packer, and Bear before a recent YSU game for this special Coach’s Corner with Mike Tomczak.

WELLSVILLE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 6) WITH MOOSE RAMSEY

Coach Moose Ramsey and the Wellsville Tigers football team both know how important it is to start off strong in the EOAC and standing in their way of starting 2-0 in conference play were the Lisbon Blue Devils. When the final horn sounded, the Wellsville Tigers left Lisbon victorious. Week six will provide the fans of Wellsville with another EOAC battle as they welcome the Bulldogs of East Palestine to town.

YSN’s own, Gary Althiser sat down with Coach Ramsey this week to discuss the strong EOAC start and what the Tigers need to accomplish on both sides of the football to keep the winning streak alive in week six.
