South Range Combs Over Tigers

(Canfield, OH)- In what will certainly go down as an emotional night in South Range history, it was the talented duo of Aniello Buzzacco, and Mathias Combs who christened the newly constructed stadium. Although they weren’t the first to find pay dirt in their new digs, they certainly found it the most often with a 37-14 victory.

Down a touchdown early, Combs was on the receiving end of a 69-yard touchdown pass from Buzzacco. The duo struck again for a 3-yard touchdown just a few minutes later.

Also adding scores for the Raiders were senior standout RB Peyton Remish with a bulldozing 35 yard touchdown, and Junior TE Josh Stear’s 7-yard TD reception. Brandon Youngs’ strong leg was 1/2 on field goals (25 yard) and perfect on extra points on the evening.

The Raiders victory celebration will be short lived, as they prepare for a tough Western Reserve team on the road in week 2.

You’ll be able to listen live beginning with the New Castle School of Trades Pregame show at 6:50 on YSN South Range.

Rockets Offense Explode Bears Hopes of Week 1 Win

The three-headed monster of Rotz, Mince and Ballone helped the Lowellville Rockets soar past the Leetonia Bears 41-0 in week 1.  Behind the Rockets 3 running-back deep I-Stack formation, the Rockets ran all over the Bears defense for 4 scores.  Minch also returned a punt for a TD and Rotz threw for a 24 yard fade route to Hvisdak for his lone TD pass of the evening.

Leetonia just couldn’t get footing on offense and were held to under 100 yards of total offense.  Injuries to Roman Ferry, and teammates Brock Simpson and Derrick Grossen held 3 of the Bears primary offensive weapons out during separate points of the game to hinder the chances of scoring their first points of the 2017 campaign.

Huff Has His Day

CRESTVIEW – Coming off a disappointing 3-7 season, the Crestview Rebels opened up 2017 on the right foot with a 41-20 victory over the West Branch Warriors.

The West Branch Warriors came out firing on all cylinders and marched down the field on the opening drive capping it off with a 27 yard touchdown run by Cole Pittman with the first two minutes. Crestview would quickly respond with a 26 yard touchdown by last year’s leading rusher Andrew Yanssens, who eclipsed the 100 yard rushing mark.

After the Warriors stretched the lead to 13-6 on a 15 yard TJ DeShields touchdown pass to Nate Crick, the Rebels Dylan Huff would take over.

Dylan Huff would score four total touchdowns; one kickoff return, one interception return and catching two of quarterback Caleb Hill’s three touchdown passes. Huff would score two of his touchdowns in the final three minutes with the Rebels up by seven to put away the Warriors.

The Rebels defensive front pressured DeShields all night with Wyatt Woodring, Dominic Perry and Justin Collins being the main culprits. The 3-year starter for the Warriors wasn’t able to get into a rhythm all night facing the heat from the Rebels defense resulting in the Rebels picking off the ball four times led by Huff and Danny Moore (two interceptions).

The Rebels look to keep their winning ways going next Friday against Struthers and you can hear it live on YSN.
