FITCH STAYS PERFECT AGAINST BOARDMAN

AUSTINTOWN, OH- The Boardman Spartans fell to Austintown-Fitch 10-9 on Tuesday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at nine with Austintown-Fitch batting in the bottom of the tenth when Derek Porter was hit by a pitch, allowing the winning run to cross the plate.

Boardman trailed by four runs in the seventh inning, but then fought back to keep Fitch on their toes.

Boardman struck first and got things moving in the first inning. Ty Ventresco drew a walk, scoring one run.

Boardman landed six runs in the seventh inning. Boardman Spartans Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included Nate FlemingVentrescoAnthony ButtoMarco Stilliana, and Gavin Hyde, all driving in runs in the frame.

Brandon Popio was the winning pitcher for Austintown-Fitch. Popio went three and a third innings, allowing one run on zero hits and striking out three.

Griffin Widrig took the loss for the Spartans. Widrig went three and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out four.

Jason Triveri started the game for Boardman, and surrendered five runs on two hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven Joe Roth started the game for Austintown-Fitch. The fireballer surrendered three runs on two hits over six and a third innings, striking out six

Widrig went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Boardman in hits.

Alarik Sierra led Austintown-Fitch with three hits in five at-bats. Austintown-Fitch tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Lawerence led the way with three.
