GETTING STARTED WITH MLB BETTING

Sports betting is a hugely popular pastime that goes hand-in-hand with some of the larger leagues, so there is no surprise in the rising interest there seems to be in betting on MLB.

Just like American football, betting on MLB games is relatively simple to get to grips with, even if you are just getting into either sports betting or basketball as a sport itself!

We have put together plenty of tips for placing a bet, information about odds, and all of the basic bet types. So, let’s get started with the basics of betting on Major League Baseball!

Betting on the Spread or Run Line

When you bet on the spread in baseball, what you are essentially wagering on is the outcome of the winning team. Not this alone, however, but also by the number of runs that the victorious team is ahead by at the end of the game when the whistle blows.

You will be shown the number of runs required for your bet to come in (i.e. the number of wins your selected team needs to win by) in the odds for any given bet that you place. You will also be told how much you need to bet in order to receive $100 if your bet comes in.

Betting on the Moneyline

Whichever sport you are betting on, choosing to bet on the moneyline is one of the easiest bets you can make. This is because you are simply wagering on which team will win overall.

No points, no totals, no overs or unders (we will go into more on this in a moment), just the team that emerges victorious at the end of the match. Get it right and you will get a return.

However, your return will vary depending on the odds given for your moneyline bet. Next to both teams you will see a minus figure that indicates how much you will need to bet in order to win $100 as a return if your bet comes in, so you can choose which teams’ odds you like.

Betting on the Overs/Unders

Betting on the overs/unders is a classic type of sports bet, and it is one that works very well when you are betting on MLB as there is a lot of potential for multiple points to be scored.

It is also a great option if you have a gut feeling that there will be either lots of or not very many points scored, but if you are not sure which team will be the one to win or lose it.

When you bet on the overs or unders, you are basically betting that the total number of points that have been made by the end of the game, from both teams combined, will be more or less than a specified total that was set by the bookies you placed a bet with.

Baseball Prop Bets

Prop bets are also available for certain MLB games, but it will depend on the bookies or online website you are using and the game you are trying to place your bets on.

These types of bets can depend on various aspects of the game, such as whether or not it will end up going to extra innings or if a certain player will perform well or poorly. You can also choose to bet on things like which team will score first and individual point-scoring.

This is a great way to increase the return that you will get from your bet should it be successful, but this is due to the fact that there is less chance of each selection being correct. Unless every single selection of the bet comes in, you will not receive a return.

So, despite having a higher reward, there is also a higher risk factor associated with this bet.
