GRAND VALLEY TRIUMPS OVER MATHEWS IN MUSTANG BATTLE

Orwell, OH- Payton Plizga struck out 12 batters as he led the Grand Valley Mustangs past the Mathews Mustangs 8-0 on Tuesday. Plizga surrendered four hits and zero runs over five innings while walking none.

Aidan Baker collected three hits in four at bats for the winning team. Baker doubled in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

The Grand Valley Mustangs jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Kamden Cottrell singled, scoring one run, and Eric Ellsworth doubled, scoring two runs.

A single by Plizga extended the Grand Valley Mustangs’ lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Brown took the loss for the Mathews Mustangs. He went four innings, surrendering four runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking one. Gage Mast pitched two innings of scoreless ball for the Grand Valley Mustangs in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Ellsworth led the Grand Valley Mustangs with four runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Trenton Murduck led the Grand Valley Mustangs with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game.

Plizga, Cottrell, and Baker each stole multiple bases for the Grand Valley Mustangs. The team ran wild on the base paths, collecting nine stolen bases for the game.

Woodall went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Mathews Mustangs in hits.

The Grand Valley Mustangs welcome Conneaut on Thursday for their next game.
