LAKERS TAKE THE BATTLE FOR THE VALLEY

Andover, OH- In a dominant performance on Monday, the Pymatuning Valley Lakers cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Grand Valley Mustangs, led by Saige Payne’s impressive hitting display.

Payne showcased her batting prowess, collecting three hits in four at-bats. Her triple in the fourth inning and singles in the third and sixth innings contributed significantly to the Lakers’ offensive onslaught.

The Lakers wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. McKenna Jordan’s walk and Macie Payne’s single each drove in a run, setting the tone for the game.

Pymatuning Valley added another run in the third inning when Mackenzie Kribbs hit a sacrifice fly, extending their lead to 3-0.

On the mound, Saige Payne delivered a stellar performance, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing only three hits while striking out five batters and issuing no walks. Kribbs also contributed with two innings of scoreless relief.

Despite a solid effort from Grand Valley’s pitcher K Hart, who went six innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, the Lakers’ offense proved too potent to contain.

Jordan’s disciplined plate approach earned her two walks, while the Lakers as a team showed patience, drawing a total of six walks in the game. Allison Clark and Jordan showcased their speed on the bases, each stealing multiple bases, contributing to the Lakers’ eight stolen bases overall.

Defensively, Pymatuning Valley turned a crucial double play and displayed sure-handed fielding, committing no errors throughout the game. Nataleigh Haines stood out defensively, making an impressive 10 plays.

For Grand Valley, T Dryer and A Hostetler collected two hits each, but they couldn’t overcome the Lakers’ dominant performance.

With this commanding win secured, the Pymatuning Valley Lakers turn their attention to their next challenge as they prepare to face Badger on Tuesday.

MUSTANGS WIN CLOSE BATTLE WITH HUSKIES

Orwell, OH- In a tightly contested matchup on Monday, the Grand Valley Mustangs managed to edge out the Cardinal Huskies with a final score of 2-1. The game showcased impressive pitching performances from both teams.

The action heated up in the top of the fourth inning when Cardinal Huskies’ Logan Strever smashed a double, putting his team on the scoreboard and giving them an early lead.

However, the Grand Valley Mustangs quickly turned the tide in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on two errors from the Cardinal defense to take a 2-1 lead.

Pitcher Eric Ellsworth played a crucial role in securing the win for the Mustangs, going the distance with an outstanding 21 outs recorded. Ellsworth allowed just one run on six hits over seven innings, striking out eight batters and issuing no walks.

Despite Cardinal’s efforts, their pitcher Jackson Puruczky ended up on the losing side, surrendering two unearned runs on one hit over six innings. Puruczky showcased his talent on the mound, striking out six batters while only allowing one hit.

At the plate, Aidan Baker led the offensive charge for the Grand Valley Mustangs, collecting one hit in three at-bats. Meanwhile, Strever stood out for the Cardinal Huskies, going 2-for-3 with a crucial RBI.

Troy Domen’s speed on the bases was a factor for the Mustangs, as he managed to swipe two bases during the game.

DRAGONS HOLD ON FOR WIN OVER MUSTANGS

Ashtabula, OH- In a tight cvc battle and Ashtabula County on Saturday, the Lakeside Dragons emerged victorious in dramatic fashion, clinching a 2-1 win over the Grand Valley Mustangs with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game reached a tense deadlock at one run apiece until Alex DiSalvatore’s crucial double brought in the winning run.

Both teams showcased impressive pitching performances, with the Lakeside Dragons’ pitchers recording seven strikeouts, while the Grand Valley Mustangs’ hurlers notched an impressive 11 strikeouts.

The Grand Valley Mustangs took an early lead in the second inning when Justin Hagan’s groundout drove in the first run of the game. However, the Lakeside Dragons responded in the bottom of the third inning when Dylan Newsome’s daring steal of home tied the score at one.

Pitcher Alex DiSalvatore played a pivotal role for the Lakeside Dragons, delivering a stellar performance on the mound. The left-hander pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and one run over seven innings while striking out seven batters and issuing three walks. On the opposing side, Hagan was credited with the loss for the Grand Valley Mustangs, pitching two and two-thirds innings and conceding one unearned run on two hits while striking out four and walking one. Payton Plizga started the game for the Mustangs, delivering a solid performance with seven strikeouts over four innings.

Offensively, DiSalvatore led the Lakeside Dragons, driving in the game-winning run and going 3-for-4 at the plate. Newsome’s aggressive baserunning also made an impact, contributing two stolen bases to the Dragons’ cause. Additionally, the Lakeside Dragons executed a key double play during the game to stifle the Mustangs’ offense.

LADY LAKERS SUFFER FIRST DEFEAT IN WALK-OFF BY MUSTANGS

Vienna, OH- In a heartbreaking finish, the Pymatuning Valley Lakers found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-2 defeat to the Mathews Mustangs on Thursday, falling victim to a walk-off hit in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Despite the loss, both teams showcased strong pitching performances. Mathews’ pitchers recorded an impressive 18 strikeouts, while the Lakers’ pitching staff managed to retire four Mathews batters.

Mathews took an early lead in the second inning when M. Hufford launched a solo home run to center field. However, the Lakers rallied in the top of the third as Nataleigh Haines delivered a clutch single, bringing in two runs and giving Pymatuning Valley the lead at 2-1.

The game took a dramatic turn in the bottom of the seventh when A. Shugart’s home run tied the score at two runs apiece. Mathews then secured the win in the bottom of the eighth.

O. Matheny earned the win for Mathews, pitching a solid eight innings and striking out 18 batters. Meanwhile, Saige Payne took the loss for the Lakers, pitching seven and one-third innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits.

Haines led the Lakers’ offensive effort with two RBIs, while leadoff hitter Allison Clark contributed three hits in four at-bats.

For Mathews, R. Paddock led the way with two hits from the leadoff position, and Newsome, Hufford, and Shugart each drove in a run.

Despite the defeat, the Lakers displayed solid defense, committing no errors throughout the game. However, Mathews’ strong pitching and timely hitting ultimately decided the outcome.

ROCKETS BLAST PAST MUSTANGS

Maplewood, OH- In a closely contested battle on Thursday, the Maplewood Rockets edged past the Grand Valley Mustangs with a 3-1 victory. While both teams showcased strong pitching performances, Maplewood’s hitters found just enough firepower to secure the win.

The game kicked off with Maplewood seizing an early lead in the first inning, capitalizing on an error to score one run.

On the mound, Logan delivered a standout performance for Maplewood, going the distance and allowing only one unearned run on five hits over seven solid innings. His commanding presence included 11 strikeouts and just three walks. Meanwhile, for the Grand Valley Mustangs, Eric Ellsworth took the mound and put up a valiant effort, pitching five innings and surrendering only two earned runs on six hits, while striking out three batters.

Despite the loss, the Mustangs displayed resilience at the plate, with Trenton Murduck, John Foss, Justin Hagan, Ellsworth, and Bryce Meeker each contributing a hit to the offensive effort.

For Maplewood, Eloph emerged as a key offensive force, driving in two crucial runs. Additionally, Erwin and Clover showcased their hitting prowess with two hits apiece. Suba’s disciplined approach at the plate resulted in two walks for the Rockets, contributing to their offensive strategy. HERALDS BATS LEAD THE WAY IN WIN OVER MUSTANGS

Orwell, OH- Isabelle Holler showcased her batting prowess, delivering a flawless performance with three hits in three at-bats, leading the St. John Heralds to a decisive 10-3 victory over Grand Valley on Monday. Holler’s contributions were pivotal, doubling twice and adding a crucial single in the sixth inning.

The Heralds erupted with a remarkable eight-run third inning, propelling them to victory. Isabelle Stern kickstarted the scoring with a well-earned walk, while Emma Hutchins’ sacrifice bunt and Caitlyn Carney’s single each drove in runs. Alyssa Cevera’s double proved instrumental, plating two more runs, and Holler’s second double of the inning added to the Heralds’ commanding lead. Rylee Frasure capped off the inning with a single, further solidifying the Heralds’ dominance.

St. John wasted no time making their mark in the first inning, as Stern’s double drove in two runs, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Though Grand Valley managed to tie the game early on, St. John swiftly regained control and never looked back.

Holler earned a well-deserved win for the Heralds, pitching a stellar game and allowing just one earned run over seven innings, while striking out four and walking four. Grand Valley’s Hostetter endured a tough outing on the mound, surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits over seven innings.

Offensively, the Heralds tallied 10 hits in total, with Cevera and Stern each driving in two runs. Holler’s speed was on full display as she swiped two bases, adding to the Heralds’ offensive prowess.

St. John’s aggressive baserunning resulted in four stolen bases throughout the game, further adding to their commanding performance.

Hostetter led the charge for Grand Valley, driving in two runs, while Bauman’s two hits led their offensive efforts.

Looking ahead, the Heralds will take their winning momentum into their next game against Badger on Tuesday, aiming to extend their dominance on the diamond.

BADGERS WRANGLE THE MUSTANGS

Burton, OH- In a tough outing for the Grand Valley Varsity Mustangs, the Berkshire Varsity Badgers dominated the diamond, securing a convincing 10-0 victory on Monday.

From the onset, the Badgers wasted no time in asserting their dominance, capitalizing on an error in the first inning to snatch an early lead, scoring two runs. Their offensive prowess continued to shine in the bottom of the third inning, with key contributions from Ethan Martin and Lou Filby, who combined to extend Berkshire’s lead with a combination of smart plays and power hitting.

Martin’s stellar performance wasn’t limited to the plate, as he also showcased his prowess on the mound, stifling the Mustangs’ offense with just one hit allowed over five innings, while striking out an impressive nine batters.

On the other side, Eric Ellsworth endured a challenging outing for the Mustangs, surrendering six runs (two earned) over two and one-third innings, despite his efforts to keep the Badgers at bay.

Offensively, the Mustangs struggled to find their rhythm, with Justin Hagan being the lone standout, going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Meanwhile, the Badgers’ offense fired on all cylinders, amassing 10 hits throughout the game. Filby emerged as a key contributor, notching three runs batted in, while leadoff hitter Sam Barcikoski set the tone with an impressive three hits in four at-bats. MUSTANGS GET STUNG BY KIRTLAND

Orwell, OH- Despite a valiant effort to mount a comeback in the fifth inning, the Grand Valley Varsity Mustangs fell just short in a narrow 5-4 loss to Kirtland on Wednesday. The Mustangs narrowed the deficit with a series of hits and a well-executed fielder’s choice, but ultimately couldn’t overcome Kirtland’s early lead.

Kirtland seized the momentum in the top of the fourth inning, with Tyler Turk scoring on a tag-up play and Macguire Boyd driving in another run with a single to put them on the scoreboard.

Max Paul delivered a solid performance on the mound for Kirtland, earning the win after allowing only two runs (one earned) on six hits over six innings, while striking out nine batters and walking four. On the other side, Payton Plizga of the Grand Valley Varsity Mustangs pitched admirably but was saddled with the loss, surrendering three earned runs on nine hits over six and one-third innings, with seven strikeouts and just one walk.

Plizga and Eric Ellsworth contributed RBIs for the Mustangs, showcasing their offensive prowess in a closely contested game. Justin Hagan emerged as a standout performer at the plate for Grand Valley, going 4-for-4 on the day.

Kirtland’s offense was led by Boyd, Tyler Turk, and Lucci Cantini, each collecting two hits, while Boyd, Jack Turk, and Cantini drove in runs to support their team’s effort.

In the end, despite a spirited offensive display and strong pitching from both sides, the Mustangs fell short of victory. They will look to bounce back in their next matchup, a home game against St. John on Saturday, as they aim to return to the win column and build on their competitive performance against Kirtland.

MUSTANGS MARCH PAST RED RAIDERS IN PAINESVILLE

Painesville, OH- In a decisive victory over the Harvey Red Raiders in Painesville on Monday, the Grand Valley Mustangs showcased the strength of their bottom lineup, securing a 12-2 win. Trenton Murduck, Justin Hagan, and Gage Mast emerged as key contributors, combining for five of the team’s eight hits while scoring four runs and driving in six.

The turning point came with a remarkable seven-run surge in the fifth inning. Kamden Cottrell kicked off the offensive onslaught by drawing a walk, followed by Austin Hall’s single, Trenton Murduck’s double driving in two runs, and Joey DiAlfredi’s fielder’s choice resulting in another run. Gage Mast’s groundout and Payton Plizga’s double added to the scoring frenzy.

The Mustangs had earlier opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Hagan’s single brought in two runs.

Eric Ellsworth delivered a stellar performance on the mound for Grand Valley, earning the win by pitching four scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out eight and walking three. Meanwhile, Trent Hull took the loss for the Harvey Red Raiders, pitching four innings and giving up three runs on five hits, with nine strikeouts and two walks. Plizga made an appearance in relief for Grand Valley.

Murduck and Hagan showcased their prowess in the lineup, each collecting two hits, with Hagan driving in three runs from the eighth spot. The Mustangs demonstrated discipline at the plate, accumulating seven walks, with Blake Taylor, Plizga, and John Foss leading the team with two walks each.

For the Harvey Red Raiders, Aidan Englehart and Brandon Bildstein contributed with one RBI each, while Hull led the team with three hits in four at-bats and stole two bases. Overall, the Red Raiders managed to steal four bases in the game.

With their sights set on another victory, the Mustangs anticipate a rematch against the Red Raiders at home on Tuesday.

ST. JOHN BASEBALL STARTS OFF WITH A BANG

Ashtabula, OH- The St. John Heralds dominated the Mathews Mustangs with a resounding 12-2 victory on Monday, led by an outstanding performance from Will Anderson, who drove in four runs on two hits. Anderson’s impact was felt throughout the game as he doubled in the fifth inning, bringing home two runs, and drew a walk in the fourth inning, scoring another.

The scoring action began early for St. John when Aaron Wychock executed a steal of home in the bottom of the second inning. Ryan Williams extended their lead to 2-0 with a timely single in the third inning.

The Heralds showcased their offensive prowess with a five-run outburst in the fifth inning. Anthony Severino’s walk brought in one run, followed by Anderson’s double which plated two more. Ezra Campbell contributed with a sacrifice fly, adding another run, and Williams capped off the inning with a double of his own, driving in one more.

On the mound, Williams started strong for St. John, allowing only three hits and two runs over five innings while striking out nine batters. Gabe Pesa started for Mathews, conceding six hits and five runs (two earned) over three and two-thirds innings.

Anderson also made a significant impact in relief, pitching one shutout inning, striking out three batters, and not allowing any hits.

St. John Heralds’ offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing a total of 12 hits in the game. Bryson Vennitti led the charge with three hits in four at-bats, while Brady Cole and Williams also contributed multiple hits.

Vennitti and Kyle Hejduk showcased their speed on the bases, each stealing multiple bases, contributing to St. John’s impressive total of eight stolen bases in the game.

For Mathews, Pesa led the team at the plate with one RBI, going 1-for-2. Dom Toto managed two hits in three at-bats for Mathews.
