DRAGONS HOLD ON FOR WIN OVER MUSTANGS

Ashtabula, OH- In a tight cvc battle and Ashtabula County on Saturday, the Lakeside Dragons emerged victorious in dramatic fashion, clinching a 2-1 win over the Grand Valley Mustangs with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game reached a tense deadlock at one run apiece until Alex DiSalvatore’s crucial double brought in the winning run.

Both teams showcased impressive pitching performances, with the Lakeside Dragons’ pitchers recording seven strikeouts, while the Grand Valley Mustangs’ hurlers notched an impressive 11 strikeouts.

The Grand Valley Mustangs took an early lead in the second inning when Justin Hagan’s groundout drove in the first run of the game. However, the Lakeside Dragons responded in the bottom of the third inning when Dylan Newsome’s daring steal of home tied the score at one.

Pitcher Alex DiSalvatore played a pivotal role for the Lakeside Dragons, delivering a stellar performance on the mound. The left-hander pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and one run over seven innings while striking out seven batters and issuing three walks. On the opposing side, Hagan was credited with the loss for the Grand Valley Mustangs, pitching two and two-thirds innings and conceding one unearned run on two hits while striking out four and walking one. Payton Plizga started the game for the Mustangs, delivering a solid performance with seven strikeouts over four innings.

Offensively, DiSalvatore led the Lakeside Dragons, driving in the game-winning run and going 3-for-4 at the plate. Newsome’s aggressive baserunning also made an impact, contributing two stolen bases to the Dragons’ cause. Additionally, the Lakeside Dragons executed a key double play during the game to stifle the Mustangs’ offense.

For the Grand Valley Mustangs, Hagan stood out with one run batted in, while Kamden Cottrell led the team with two hits in two at-bats.

With this hard-fought victory secured, the Lakeside Dragons turn their focus to their upcoming game against Pymatuning Valley on Monday, aiming to maintain their momentum and continue their winning streak.
