TIGERS MUSCLE THEIR WAY TO DISTRICTS

SPRINGFIELD OH- The Tigers made their way to the District Semifinals with a win over Mathews, 48-31.

The game was close at the half, but the Tigers pulled away with a 19-6 advantage in the 3rd quarter. All starters got in the scoring column, and Springfield’s defense held Mathews’ talented 1000-point scorer (Ashley Deans) to 12 points.

Jacey Mullen and Kylee Kosek both posted double-doubles for Springfield. Mullen had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Kosek had 15 points and 10 boards. Madi Lesnak added a 6 point-7 rebound- 5 block performance for the Tigers.

The Tigers will travel to McDonald on Wednesday evening.

LEETONIA BEATS MUSTANGS IN PHOTO FINISH

LEETONIA OH- The Leetonia Bears tied the game up in the 4th quarter to send the game into overtime to pull out a  41-38 victory over the visiting Mathews Mustangs in Saturday’s contest.

The Bears  put up 13 4th quarter points while holding the Mustangs to 5 points to send the game into OT. In the extra session Leetonia out-scored Mathews 5-2.

Leetonia improves to 10-5 for the year. Leading the scoring attack for Leetonia was Taren Ferry with 16 points and Allison Francosky dropped in 10 points.

Mathews Bella Greenwood scored 11 points and Brooke Bauer and Ashley Deans each had 10 points.

MUSTANGS GALLOP TO VICTORY OVER HEARTLAND

MATHEWS OH- Ashley Deans 19 points helped lead  the Mathews Mustangs to a 61-30 victory over the visiting Heartland Christian Lions.

Mathews held a 27-13 lead at the half and added to it in the final 2 periods doubling up the Lions 34-17.

Also pacing the 3-3 Mustangs was Brooke Bauer with 12 points and teammate Bella Greenwood with10 points.

For the 4-9  Lions was Madi Matthews with 14 points and Sophia Stambaugh adding 10 points.

RAMS CONTINUE TO ROLL

MINERAL RIDGE OH- The Rams were led by Senior Jake Sylak’s 34 and Freshman Trey Rigley’s 43 (personal best). Also scoring for Ridge was Senior Christopher McMahan’s 49 and Sophomore Hayden Lengyel’s 53(personal best). Blaine Spitler shot a 55 and Keaton Kucera shot a 65. The team improved to 9-2, 5-2 on the year. Next up the Rams travel to Springfield tomorrow.
