HUBBARD AND POLAND SHAKE UP NE8

HUBBARD, OH- The Hubbard Eagles clinched a solid 6-3 victory over the one-loss Poland Bulldogs on Monday, in a game that saw momentum swing back and forth.

The Bulldogs were first to light up the scoreboard in the second inning when Aiden Thompson worked a walk that brought a runner home. However, Hubbard didn’t take long to respond. Tyler Wright laced a single in the third inning, evening things out at one apiece after battling through six pitches.

Jacob Hayes then cranked up the intensity in the fifth, ripping a triple that pushed Poland back in front 3-1. But the Eagles weren’t down for long. They stormed back in the bottom of the fifth, plating four runs to seize a 5-3 lead. Braydon Songer kicked off the rally with an RBI single, Johnny Reyes followed with a sacrifice fly, and Gabe Rusnak delivered the big blow—a two-run double.

Songer wasn’t just swinging a hot bat; he also dominated on the mound, snagging the win for Hubbard. Coming in as a reliever, he tossed two and one-third innings of one-hit ball, fanning four and walking just one. Wright started on the bump for the Eagles, giving up three runs across nearly five innings, while Hayes, who shone for Poland with two RBIs, also started, surrendering five runs over the same span.

Hubbard collected nine hits in total, with Songer leading from the leadoff spot, and they executed a slick double play that helped keep Poland at bay.

Hayes stood out for the Bulldogs, both on the mound and at the plate, contributing two hits and a couple of RBIs. Matt Paparodis also added two hits for Poland, who turned a double play themselves.

The Eagles are set to face the Bulldogs again tomorrow in Poland to wrap up this conference clash.
