BLUE DEVILS RIDE HOT BATS TO WIN OVER RIDGE

BERLIN CENTER, OH- The Western Reserve Blue Devils grabbed an early lead on its way to a 12-4 victory over Mineral Ridge on Tuesday.  Western Reserve took the lead on a fielder’s choice in the first inning.

The  Blue Devils secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the third inning.  The offensive firepower by Western Reserve Blue Devils was led by Nick Cavoulas, CJ Berlinbates, Alex Mayorga, Nick Niemi, and Jake Pappagallo, all driving in runs in the inning.

Western Reserve pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning.

Western Reserve scored seven runs in the third inning.  Western Reserve Blue Devil’s offense in the inning came from singles by Niemi and Pappagallo, an error on a ball put in play by Berlinbates and Mayorga, and a fielder’s choice by Cavoulas.

Pappagallo led the Western Reserve to victory on the mound. Pappagallo lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out eight.  Mayorga threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Kyle Bickerstaff took the loss for Mineral Ridge. The pitcher went four innings, allowing ten runs on nine hits and striking out five.

The Blue Devils racked up 11 hits.  Gabe Platt, Jacob Buchmann, and Niemi each managed multiple hits for Western Reserve Blue Devils Varsity.  Niemi, Buchmann, and Platt each collected two hits to lead Western Reserve.
