HUBBARD SWEEPS DOUBLE HEADER WITH WARRIORS

BELOIT, Ohio

In a nonconference matchup the Hubbard Lady Eagles traveled to Beloit to take on the West Branch Warriors.

GAME 1

Jumping on the Warriors early, the Lady Eagles got out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a 2 RBI double off the bat of Sydney Bowser. Hubbard would score 3 more in the top of the third when Haley Croyleblasted one over the center field wall, her second homerun on the season.

Down but not out, the West Branch Warriorsplated one run in the bottom of the fourth after Hubbard’s Croyle would walk the bases loaded, then one in. Neither team would score in the fifth, then both pitchers would strike out the side in the bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh.

Croyle would proceed to strikeout the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh but West Branch wouldn’t go away easily. A double off the bat of West Branch’s Thomas would keep the game alive then would later come across to score off a single by Anderson. The scoring would stop there for the Warriors, dropping game 1, 5-2.

GAME 2

After the break, the teams would trade runs through the first 3 innings of game 2. Continuing their 7th inning run scoring from the previous game, the Warriors would plate 1 run in the first thanks to a single from Mercer.

Hubbard would respond with a run of their own in the top of the second when Jordyn Juillerat would single through the 6-5 hole, bringing across Kailah Gregory to tie the game at 1.

West Branch would score one in the bottom of the second before giving back to the Lady Eagles in the top of the third. Scoring would go dormant until West Branch’s Thomas would score after getting hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the fourth, then advancing to second, third, then eventually home all on wild pitches.

Hubbard would explode offensively in the fifth. Grace Narkum would double to bring home Phoebe Rusnak then an error from the Warriors would allow the Eagles to plate another before their final run of the inning would come across thanks to a passed ball.

Trailing by 3 in the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors needed to get the bats rolling. Leschwould single to start the inning then Anderson would hit the second homerun of the series and bring the Warriors to within 1.

Unfortunately, the Warriors comeback effort would once again come up short, losing their second game of the day, 6-5.
