AKRON, Ohio — The Archbishop Hoban Knights boys’ basketball team saw their season come to a close as they fell to the Garfield Heights Bulldogs with a final score of 52-43 in the Division I regional semi-final game on Friday night at The James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron.

Hoban came out strong, particularly from beyond the arc, thanks to the efforts of freshman standout John Johnson. Johnson’s sharp shooting helped the Knights take a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, Garfield Heights found their stride in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and scoring in transition to outscore Hoban 16-9 in the period, claiming a 27-22 halftime advantage.
The third quarter saw both teams trading blows evenly, with each side tallying 11 points. Free throws dominated the scoring, with the game remaining tightly contested from start to finish. In the fourth quarter, Hoban fought hard to close the deficit to one possession multiple times, but Garfield Heights ultimately made key plays down the stretch. The Bulldogs sealed the victory with a 14-10 final quarter, securing their spot in the elite eight.

Leading the charge for Garfield Heights was Marcus Johnson with 17 points, supported by Deandre Jones and CJ Little, who contributed 13 points each. On the other side, Hoban was paced by freshman sensation John Johnson, who also finished with 17 points, while Jonas Nichols added 15 points.
