MOONEY SECURES HOLY WAR BRAGGING RIGHTS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- One of the best rivalries in all of the county and Northeast Ohio in the lady Holy War edition took center stage with both teams looking to get back on track.  For the Lady Irish, they got their second win against Heartland Christian and were looking to go back to back with a record of two and six under coach Bernard Scott.  Meanwhile for coach Dom Diorio and the Lady Cardinals, their goal was to open up the New Years and get back to their winning ways.

Mooney opened up the first quarter with an eight to nothing run thanks to buckets from Alaina Scavina, Olivia Rouser and Maria Fire.  The Lady Irish had a good defensive stand but only got a layup from Alayna Smith.  Carmen Boyd had four points in the second quarter along with Lily Scott, but the Cardinals kept on pulling away with the Irish playing keep up, down 20-13 at the half.

That would be the story of the game for Ursuline as every time they scored, Cardinal Mooney would score right back at them.  The Cardinals would pull away in the end thanks to a couple more points from Scavina and Diorio making the final 49-36, with the Lady Cardinals winning five in a row since the 2019-2020 season against Ursuline.
