RAMS SLIDE INTO DISTRICTS AGAIN
MINERAL RIDGE, OH-\ Mineral Ridge pulled off a solid 4-2 win over Grand Valley, securing their second sectional championship in three years.
The game started slow on offense for the Rams, but Xavier Klamer and the defense kept things tight despite some tricky spots, holding Grand Valley to just a 2-run lead.
The breakthrough came in the 5th inning. Jackson Geddes sparked a rally with a clutch two-out base hit. Gavin Harding and Jack Gillie followed with hits, and Nick Anderson blew the game open with a single that scored two runs.
Klamer started on the mound, going four innings and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts. Anderson came in for relief and was lights out, pitching three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, walking two, and striking out one to earn the win.
Next up for the Rams is a matchup against Jackson Milton in the district semifinals at Niles on Tuesday night at 5 pm.
MAPLEWOOD CLOSES THE BOOK ON LISBON’S YEAR
CORTLAND, OH- Lisbon couldn’t keep pace with Maplewood, dropping the game 9-0 on Thursday.
Maplewood came out swinging in the bottom of the first, with Gabe Erwin smashing a double to bring in a run followed by Tyson Webster ripping a triple to knock in two more. They didn’t let up in the second, with another double from Erwin, an error, and a Marshall Eloph single further padding their lead.
Coleton Logan was on fire for Maplewood, tossing six innings of three-hit ball, striking out 13, and keeping Lisbon scoreless. On the flip side, Bryce Esarey struggled for Lisbon, allowing nine runs over four and a third innings, though only seven were earned.
Esarey, Aiden Myers, and Brady Carpenter managed a hit each for Lisbon, which wasn’t nearly enough to challenge Maplewood’s defense, which was flawless on the day.
Maplewood racked up 10 hits. Erwin and Webster both had a hot bat, with Erwin driving in three runs. The Maplewood lineup also showed great discipline, drawing eight walks, thanks in part to Kenyan Clover’s three. Maplewood played a tight game defensively, with Webster getting involved in 13 plays, helping to keep their field error-free.
Lisbon’s season comes to an end with a final record of 11-9-1.
DEVILS GO DOWN IN DALTON
DALTON, OH- The Western Reserve Blue Devils struggled to keep pace with the Dalton Bulldogs, falling 7-1 on Thursday.
The Blue Devils got an early lead when Evan Slaven walked and eventually crossed the plate in the top of the first. But that lead didn’t hold for long, as Dalton took advantage of a couple of miscues to grab a 2-1 lead in the second.
Seth Wyckoff was on point for the Bulldogs, dominating from the mound with 13 strikeouts across six innings while allowing just one hit and an unearned run. Brock Wellman, on the other hand, found the going tough for Western Reserve, surrendering six runs, though only one was earned, on nine hits through four innings.
Vance Story managed the only hit for the Blue Devils, going 1-for-2 to lead his team at the plate. Meanwhile, Dalton’s bats were hot, with 11 hits lighting up the scoreboard. Alex Hess led the charge with a 3-for-4 day, setting the tone for the Bulldogs. Brady Hignight chipped in with a couple of RBIs on a 1-for-3 outing.
