BOARDMAN WALKS OFF IN TO NEXT ROUND

ASHTABULA OH- Boardman’s 12U Little League softball team was geared up and ready for the state tournament on Saturday after winning District 2 earlier this week. Their opening opponent was Tallmadge who is known for putting together good teams at this stage. But Boardman was up for the task as they walked off Tallmadge 2-1 in 8 innings to secure a spot in the winner’s bracket.

Boardman got on the board first in this low scoring battle in the 3rd when Addy Volosin knocked in Addie Rudge to put Boardman up 1-0.  Tallmadge would tie the game in their next at bat.  The two teams would then remain deadlocked until extras, where international tie breaker rules applied. After holding Tallmadge scoreless, Boardman loaded the bases to allow Emma Davies to score the game winning run on a passed ball.

Davies put together another fantastic effort for Boardman in the circle. She threw the complete game and gave up just the one run on 3 hits, and struck out 18.

Boardman advances to the winner’s bracket where they’ll square up with the winner of Elyria vs Clay. That game is set for Sunday July 10th at 2:00 in Ashtabula.

POLAND SET FOR REMATCH AGAINST BOARDMAN

BOARDMAN, OH- Poland just had a feeling they hadn’t seen the last of the Boardman All-Stars.  Thursday, they proved it.

Poland blasted past Austintown 12-2 in an elimination game on Friday to setup the championship rematch.

In the first inning, Poland got their offense started. Carson Martinucci singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.  Poland tallied five runs in the third inning, batters contributing to the big inning included Dom Delloumo, Colin Simerlink, and Carson Martinucci, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Colin Simerlink was on the pitcher’s mound for Poland. The pitcher lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking zero.

Bryce Freudenberg was on the hill for Austintown. The righthander went two and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 runs on ten hits and striking out one. Bryce Stovall threw three and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Poland collected 13 hits. Colin Simerlink, Zachary Marantis, and Matthew Pint each managed multiple hits for Poland.

Karter Oyster went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Austintown in hits.

BOARDMAN PUNCHES TICKET TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

BOARDMAN, OH- A special team indeed.  Boardman kept their winning ways going on Wednesday night when they blanked a very good Austintown team 9-0 in the winner’s bracket showdown.

Boardman’s 12U All-Stars notched four runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught by was led by Rocco Haas, Donovan Whippo, and Elijah Land, who each had RBIs in the inning.

One bright spot for Austintown All-Stars was a single by Bryce Stovall in the second inning.

Rocco Haas earned the victory on the mound for Boardman. The standout pitcher lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out ten and walking one. Jack Gocala threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen and slammed the door shut with two strikeouts of his own.

POLAND 12U BOUNCES BACK AGAINST CANFIELD

BOARDMAN, OH- Less than 24 hours after falling to Boardman in the opening round of the 2022 District Tournament, Poland lit up the scoreboard for 10 runs against their rival Canfield in a 10-0 victory.

Poland opened up scoring in the first inning, when Dom Delloumo singled on a 3-0 count, scoring one run.

Matt Pint got the start for Poland. The righty surrendered zero runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three in a dominant performance.

Hudson Erjavic led things off on the mound for Canfield. The right-hander surrendered four runs on four hits over one inning, walking one. Luke Brose threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Joey Ignazio went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Canfield in hits.

Poland racked up 11 hits. Dom Delloumo, Zachary Marantis, and Colin Simerlink each had multiple hits for Poland. Delloumo led Poland with three hits in three at-bats. Poland tore up the base paths, as Zach Marantis led the way with two.

BOARDMAN CRUISES TO DISTRICT TITLE

BOARDMAN OH- Boardman has been on cruise control for the entire district tournament on their way to their championship appearance. Coming into Tuesday’s championship matchup with Canfield, Boardman carried supreme confidence. A monster 11 run 3rd inning catapulted them to a 12-0 victory in 4 innings.

The first two innings, Boardman’s offense left major scoring opportunities on the board. In the first, they loaded the bases. They scored one run on a single, but then Canfield gunned down a would be second run at the plate to end the inning. Canfield would return the favor and leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame without scoring a run. In the second inning, Boardman once again put on the pressure. With runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, Canfield’s first baseman Milana Mollenkopf caught a line drive and then doubled off a runner at second. Taylor Watts put a charge into the ball to center field, but Sophia Seiple made a spectacular over the head grab to rob her of an extra base hit.  It killed the inning and let Canfield stay in the game. Mollenkopf also made an amazing catch at the fence in foul territory in the first.

When the third inning came around Boardman once again put traffic on the base paths. And once again it looked like Cam Hrina and the Canfield defense was going to wiggle free. Enter Mia Duble. With 2 outs and the bases still juiced, Duble took a 1-0 pitch deep to left for a grand slam. It started the fire that would fuel a 11 run inning, taking any doubt away from who was going to win.

Emma Davies also was on lock down for Boardman in the circle. She struck out 14 on her way to a second shutout of Canfield in a week.

Boardman advances to the State bracket in Ashtabula. They will play the winner of District 1 at 10:00 AM on Saturday June 9th. It will be a double elimination bracket just like districts.

BOARDMAN 12U SWINGS PAST POLAND

BOARDMAN, OH- Drew Starkey put a bolt of lightning in the Boardman offense on Tuesday night when he hit a ball into orbit on a solo home run in the first inning.

Donovan Whippo had all the right stuff for Boardman on the mound, allowing zero runs and besting Poland  by a score of 4-0

A single by Colin Simerlink in the first inning was a positive for Poland.

Whippo was the winning pitcher for Boardman. The bulldog lasted all six innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out four.

Zach Marantis took the loss for Poland.  Marantis went four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on ten hits and striking out four.

Boardman racked up ten hits in the game. Donovan Whippo, Patrick Groner, and Drew Starkey all collected multiple hits for Boardman 12U All Stars.

Boardman will turn their attention to Austintown tonight at 8pm.  If you can’t make the game, it will be broadcast on YSN.

NAWR-WALK-OFF: BOARDMAN 12U TAKE DISTRICT CROWN ON GAME-WINNING SLAM

BOARDMAN, OH- It was easily one of the top ten games you’ll ever see in your lifetime.  Great pitching, outstanding defense, gutsy performances, high drama, and yes- a walk-off grand slam.  Oh, and by the way- these young men are only twelve.

The Boardman All-Stars went back and forth with Canfield for the entire game for the exception of one out to go.  The bases were loaded with no outs for Boardman in a 0-0 game in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Canfield reliever, Drew Snyder was put into a tough situation.  He started the at-bat 3-0, and was in danger of walking in the winning run before striking out two consecutive batters to put Boardman back onto the ropes.

Then, Mason Nawrocki stepped to the dish.

“Mason was due, he was.  And he did a great job” said Boardman Manager, Dom Triveri.  Nawrocki stepped to the plate and took a fastball for a strike before delivering the biggest hit of his life.  Mason swung at the 0-1 fastball from Snyder and sent the ball majestically into the Boardman sky.  The left fielder raced toward the 200-foot fence but knew what the capacity crowd already discovered, Nawrocki had just sent his team to the next round as District 2 Champions in style: a walk-off grand slam.

A 4-0 victory sends Boardman to New Albany later this month to take on some of the state’s finest teams, but without a doubt, they may have already done that on a few special nights in July.  “Canfield’s a special team, they played a heck of a game.  Enzo Cocca pitched a heck of a game,” said Triveri.  Cocca was fantastic on the mound for Canfield, holding an explosive Boardman offense to no runs through 5 innings of work.

For Boardman, Ryan Neifer was a work-horse, plowing his way to 10 strikeouts and giving up no runs while picking up the victory.  “I just wanted to come in and get 10 strikeouts, so, I got my goal.  You’re always happy when you can get 10 K’s…my infield and outfield is amazing, I couldn’t ask for a better one,” said Neifer.

MANCINI LEADS THE WAY AS CANFIELD FORCES BOARDMAN TO ELIMINATION GAME

BOARDMAN, OH-  One swing is all it takes sometimes.  For Canfield, and for their standout, Dylan Mancini-great things happen in three’s.

In the third inning, Canfield 12U stud, Dylan Mancini took a pitch deep into left field and over the 200-foot marker for a three-run home run.  Mancini would add a triple (3-bagger) later on in the game to finish the game 2-3 and the Baird Brothers Most Valuable Player of the Game for YSN.

With an 8-2 victory over rival Boardman, the stage is set for a true Championship, winner takes all game Thursday at 7 pm.

Noah Anzevino started on the hill for Canfield and earned the win, while Aidan Radinsky appeared in relief and stymied Boardman bats.

The Boardman All-Stars started Anthony Triveri on the hill, followed by Ty Kirlik and Dom Polkovich.

BOARDMAN 12U HEADED TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ON WALK-OFF

NORTH CANTON, OH-  Do you remember that famous line “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”?  The Boardman 12U Baseball Team lived that line through 6 innings of play on Friday night.  Boardman defeated Hamilton Westside 5-4 on Friday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at four with Boardman batting in the bottom of the sixth when Tyler Kirlik singled on a 3-2 count, scoring the game-winner.

Boardman Community LL 12U All-Stars BCB got things moving in the first inning. Cal Huston walked, and stole second, stole third, and stole home on a wild pitch.

For Boardman, Jack Ericson led things off on the mound. He lasted two innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out four.  Ericson’s key contribution would come in the 5th inning on a two-run, in the park home run down the left field line.  He would give Boardman the lead at 4-3 heading into the final frame.

Jon Alcorn toed the rubber for Hamilton Westside LL 12U. He allowed four hits and four runs over five innings, striking out eight.

Dylan Barrett went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Boardman in hits.

Boardman will sleep off Friday’s victory, and will have to turn it around against New Albany at 11am Saturday.  Boardman needs 2 consecutive victories over the Eagles in order to win the state title, and qualify for Regionals in Indianapolis.

You can watch the action starting tomorrow at 10:55 on www.YSNLive.com/Boardman12u .
