HEADED HOME: AUSTINTOWN FITCH FALCONS BASEBALL PREVIEW

AUSTINTOWN, OH – Pitching is the ultimate separator between The Falcons flying or falling this season. For the former pitching coach turned head coach, Joe Paris, believes the success of the Falcons season will heavily depend on their pitching. Led by players such as junior, Joe Roth (C, P), the pitching staff will be dependent on him, not only on the mound, but behind the plate calling games for the rest of the staff.

One thing is for certain, The AAC will be anything but easy this season. Teams such as Boardman, Canfield, and Howland all look to be impactful roadblocks for the Falcons. However, with the talent and the depth at pitching for Coach Paris and his staff, the Falcons hope to be primed for a deep run come playoffs!

HEADED HOME: BOARDMAN LADY SPARTANS SOFTBALL PREVIEW

BOARDMAN, OH – YSN recently had the opportunity to sit down and speak to head coach Fred Mootz of the Boardman Lady Spartans. The Lady Spartans have three seniors and two of them are already committed to play at the next level. Coach Mootz also has four juniors who lettered as freshman, and of course like the rest of Ohio spring sports they missed out on last season due to COVID. Coach reminded us that he knows he has high expectations as this year is the 20th anniversary of 2001 Boardman Lady Spartans state championship team, that being said, he understands its always one game at a time. Defense and pitching will lead the way for Boardman and they expect their bats will heat up as the weather does, right in time for the state tournament.

CANFIELD, OH – Head coach Gary Knittle took some time with us and spoke about the talent around Canfield this year. Coach expects good things, but reminded us that theres plenty of competing inside their own dugout. Players are still earning positions and starting roles. Speaking of starting roles the Cardinals have a really good pitching staff. Leading the way is Landon Beidelschies and Nate Shaw as a great 1-2 punch. Two guys committed to Division 1 programs. Nate Shaw is committed to Wright State and Landon Beidelschies is committed to Westpoint. With arms like these they are a coach’s dream. Younger players of note are Ben Slanker and A.J Havrilla.

IF YA SMELL WHAT TOROK IS COOKIN!

CANFIELD, OH – When talking to Coach Pavlansky and the rest of the Canfield community, the resounding answer to what makes this team so great, is senior leadership and the drive to never have the final game come. With that being said, this senior class has led the Cardinals to a perfect record so far and a match up with Streetsboro in the regional semi-finals this Friday night.

One of the leaders of this senior class is Logan Torok, the 6’3″ wideout. His size alone is enough to strike fear in opposing cornerbacks eyes but his athleticism and speed make him a match up nightmare. Logan has not only been able to dominate on offense but he is also able to be a vocal leader in the locker room, from the sidelines, and in the community. He has a unique ability to unite everyone on the team to get ready for a game and is always one of the most energized players on the field when his teammates make a big play!

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Logan this week via video chat to discuss his senior year so far, what it has been like to grow up as a Cardinal, what his plans are for after high school, a rapid fire question session to learn about some of that things that make Logan who he is, and much more!

Check out this exclusive interview with Canfield Cardinals senior star wide receiver, Logan Torok!
