LADY POLAR BEARS FREEZE FITCH FOR FIRST LOSS

AUSTINTOWN, OH- The Massillon Jackson Lady Polar Bears made the trip to Fitch High School for a Saturday showdown, and they walked away with an impressive victory over the Lady Falcons, 55-26.

The Falcons started the scoring for the game, but that was as far as their lead would stretch as Jackson was deadly from outside. The Lady Falcons trailed only by 7 at the half but were only able to put up a single tally in the 3rd quarter offensively, and Jackson took advantage.

Senior Daria Williams led the way at both ends of the court as she had 12 points and was the Fitch top scorer, and was aggressive on defense limiting the points inside the paint.

Fitch drops to 3-1 on the year and will travel to East on Wednesday to take on their cross-town rivals.

TIGERS MAUL FITCH

AUSTINTOWN, OH – In a game where the Austintown Fitch Falcons felt that they could put a ripple across the state of Ohio, the Massillon Washington Tigers showed exactly why they are considered to be the favorite come December to win another state championship, as they beat the Falcons, 55-7.

Peppered with multiple three-star recruits and a four-star wideout recruit, the Tigers took one play from scrimmage on a 42 yard touchdown strike from Aidan Longwell to Jayden Ballard. Ballard is a junior four star wideout who is committed to Ohio State. The real narrative in this game was the running game from the Tigers, led by the three-star recruit, Terance Keyes Jr. The senior running back, Keyes Jr., finished the first half with 16 carries, 185 yards and four touchdowns, which was when his night was done.

The lone score from the Falcons came on a 2 yard touchdown run from quarterback Devin Sherwood, which cut the Tigers lead to 14-7. A few plays prior, Sherwood found Donnie Ellis for a 35 yard completion.

Austintown was led through the air by Devin Sherwood with 1 completions on 6 attempts for 35 yards. Austintown was led on the ground by Devin Sherwood with 13 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown. Austintown’s leading receiver was Donnie Ellis with 1 reception for 35 yards.

PEREZ’S PLACE

If there’s one young man that’s ready for this season, it’s Austintown Fitch’s Nose Guard, Joe Perez.  The Falcon senior has seemingly been waiting for this moment to etch his name in the history books for the red and blue.  Perez is a big, athletic body at 5’11 who serves as the anchor of the Fitch defense.

In 2019, those are big shoes that need to be filled as this team has big plans, and it all starts up front on both sides of the ball.

YSN General Manager caught up with the Fitch freighter to discuss this season, Coach A, and a few of his favorite things outside football for this week’s Austintown Fitch Player Profile: Perez’s Place.

AUSTINTOWN FITCH COACH’S CORNER WITH JON ELLIOT (EP 1)

This will be a very special season at Austintown Fitch this year for more reasons than one.  This year Falcon Nation will honor the legacy of longtime Coach Phil Annarella through their play on the field, and actions away from it.  Tasked with taking over the Falcons will be Jon Elliot who has been the Offensive Coordinator for the past two seasons.

Fitch looks to represent for their longtime leader, and also pay tribute to the dedication of their new chief.

YSN’s Steve Leslie caught up for the first edition of our Coach’s Corner series with Coach Elliot and they cover the bases for all your Week 1 knowledge.
