HUGHES SHINES BRIGHT IN RESERVE VICTORY

MCDONALD OH-

The Battle of The Blue Devils wrote another chapter in their storied rivalry on Thursday night. The McDonald Blue Devils were looking for a sequel to their straight set win in Berlin Center on August 30th.  The Western Reserve Blue Devils were looking for a rewrite all together, as they traveled to McDonald on Thursday, looking for some revenge.

Revenge is what Western Reserve got in Set 1 with an emphatic 10 point win to capture their first set over McDonald in the 2022 season. However, knowing how hard it is to fight out of an 0-2 hole, McDonald showed their resilience by grinding out an 8 point Set 2 win.

With things all evened up at a set a piece, both teams knew how critical it was to have Set 3. A close back and forth battle ensued, but Western Reserve proved to be too much, taking the set by a slim 3 points and regaining the advantage in the match. Utilizing that momentum, Western Reserve continued to roll in the next set, running away from McDonald 25-16 in Set 4 to win the match!

Alyvia Hughes had an incredible night, tallying 33 Kills against McDonald to help secure a big conference win for Western Reserve. The win for Reserve will result in a season tie 1-1 in matches between McDonald and Western Reserve, with a tournament matchup being the only potential way of settling the season.

McDonald (11-4) after dropping their second conference game of the season, will now have their sights set on Waterloo (3-8) when they host The Vikings on Tuesday, September 27th. Western Reserve (10-4) after improving their record, will now host a very good Cardinal Mooney (6-6) in their one and only battle this season with The Cardinals!
