CANFIELD IMPROVES TO 2-0 WITH VICTORY OVER EAST

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Canfield Cardinals stayed undefeated with a 17 point victory over the East Golden Bears at East high school. The Cardinals took the first lead and led the entire game to beat East 69-52.

Canfield was led by sophomore forward Ben Weaver who scored 16 points. Behind Weaver was Tony Russo who scored 13 points with 9 of them coming in the second half. Sophomore Ray McCune scored 10 points in the paint off the bench for Canfield.

East was led by Isiah McCray who scored 14 points, while knocking down multiple three pointers. Behind McCray was Cam Sly who scored 12 points while dodging foul trouble since the first quarter. Senior Anthony Thomas scored 8 points to add to the offensive totals.

The Cardinals are now 2-0 after taking down Lakeview and East to open up the season. Canfield is back in action on Saturday at Mentor at 1:45. The Golden Bears are now 2-2 and will host John Marshall at 5:30 on Saturday.

DOM PLAYS HARD ALL FOUR QUARTERS

CANFIELD, OH- Senior linebacker and tailback Dom Marzano joined us for the second time to talk about his senior football season. Marzano is now a three year letter-winner for the Cardinals and is one of just five current players to start the past three seasons. Marzano brings a ton of playoff experience to the younger defense, playing in his third consecutive regional semifinal game on Friday night vs Ursuline.

Marzano leads the Canfield defense with 72 total tackles, and 10.5 tackles for a loss with 3.5 sacks. Dom not only does it on the defensive side, but he also has been a contributer to the Cardinals offense. Marzano has 63 yards rushing and 8 receptions for 68 yards along with one touchdown. Marzano’s first touchdown came against rival Poland all the way back in week three. CANFIELD CRUISES BY BOARDMAN IN WEEK 10

CANFIELD, OH- The Canfield Cardinals hosted former AAC opponent Boardman to close out the regular season. The Cardinals jumped out in front early, and never looked back.

Canfield started the ballgame off with a Broc Lowry touchdown from 13 yards out. This was one of two rushing touchdowns for the QB, as Lowry scored again in the first quarter to make it 14-0. In the second quarter, Lowry was in the mix once again with a 25 yard one handed touchdown reception by Gavin Ramun to make it 21-0. To close out the first half, running back Danny Inglis scored to make it 28-0 at the end of the second quarter.

In the third quarter, the Cardinals made it a five score lead with another rushing touchdown, this time from Scottie Eaton to make it 35-0. The Spartans would be able to get on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter with a touchdown reception from Kejuan Robinson to close out the ballgame 35-6. Canfield improves to 8-1 to end the regular season, while Boardman ends the year at 4-6.

THE JOURNEY OF ORTIZ

CANFIELD, OH- Senior tailback Caleb Ortiz sat down at Cocca’s Pizza to discuss his high school journey. Ortiz grew up in the northeastern Ohio area, until moving down south to the sunshine state of Florida when he was in sixth grade. Ortiz then moved back to Canfield for high school and has rejoined the Canfield football team for his senior season. He talks about falling back in love with the game, some teammates he has leaned on since arriving back, and his overall experience in Canfield. Check out this player profile brought to you by:
