WEST BRANCH GLIDES THROUGH NILES

BELOIT OH- West Branch wasted no time getting their tournament run started. The Warriors hosted Niles, but weren’t the most kind of hosts. West Branch rolled over the Dragons 68-19 to advance themselves to the next round.

Anna Lippiatt led the charge for West Branch finishing with 14 points. Both Livvie Showalter, and Hannah Egli finished the night with 12. Sophie Gregory was also in double figures with 10 points.

West Branch advances to the sectional final on Saturday. They will host Edgewood. That tip is set for 1:00.

SOUTH RANGE TAMES THE DRAGONS

NILES OH- South Range came into Friday night hoping to end their NE8 slate of games this season on a high note. They did just that as they led from wire to wire to beat Niles 45-36. This was the Raider’s second win over Niles this season. The Raiders finish NE8 play at 6-8.

Lamdon Moore led South Range with 9 points. Mark Naples was right behind him with 8. Both Dylan Turvey, and Aiden Leon added 7. The Raiders had a total of 8 different players score on the night.

Niles was led by Robert Strickland who finished with a game-high 13 points. Matt Kozak chipped in 6 points.

South Range stays on the road Saturday to play their second game in two days. They’ll visit Heartland Christian.  Niles will also be on the road in their next game. They’ll travel to Newton Falls on Tuesday.

HUBBARD GETS BACK TO WINNING

HUBBARD, Ohio –

Led by a strong defensive effort, the Hubbard Lady Eagles got back on track in NE8 conference play with a 43-26 victory over the Niles Lady Red Dragons.

Defensively, the Lady Eagles forced 14 Niles turnovers, with senior Grace Narkum leading the way with 5 steals. Star underclassmen, Sophie Murphy and Peytyn Slovesko each added in 3 stelas of their own. Hubbard allowed under double digit points in each of the first three quarters, before calling off the dogs in the fourth.

In their routing of the rival Red Dragons, 18 different players graced the floor, 8 of which would provide points. Despite going 0 for 6 from long range, the Lady Eagles made up for their struggles from deep with an astounding 19-30 from the charity stripe.

HUBBARD:

Eleni Grillis 10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist

Sophie Murphy – 9 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals

Peytyn Slovesko – 9 points, 3 rebound, 3 steals

Hubbard Snapping their two-game skid, the Lady Eagles will hit the road to take on the Girard Lady Indians (7-5) next Monday, the 24th. The Lady Indians got the best of Hubbard last time around, winning 43-33.

Niles Failing to secure their first wining streak of the season, the Lady Red Dragons will remain on the road this Saturday to take on the Badger Braves (7-6).

SOUTH RANGE COMES BACK TO SLAY DRAGONS

CANFIELD OH- South Range was coming off a game where they had to watch Struthers come back from a 13 point deficit to win the game. On Friday night, the Raiders took a page out of the Struthers playbook and secured a comeback victory. The Raiders were down 9 points to Niles at halftime before coming back to win 44-38.

The Raiders were led by Mark Naples who scored 13 points for the night. The Raiders had another player in double figures as Dylan Turvey added 10. Landon Moore’s 9 points were also crucial to the Raiders win.

Sam Perrone was able to lead the Dragons with 13 points.

South Range will have 7 days to get ready as they host Girard on Friday. Niles will venture outside the conference on Tuesday as they host Campbell.

RANGE MAKES IT THROUGH DRAGON’S DEN


NILES, OH – The South Range Lady Raiders inch closer to the top of the NE8 with their eighth victory of the season Thursday night, as they took on the Niles Lady Red Dragons. South Range put on another dominating performance, leading 20-7 at half and 36-9 after three quarters of play. The Lady Raiders defensive play, and Lexi Giles scoring helped the Raiders come out on top over Niles, 40-21 

 

For South Range, Giles led the team with 16 points on the night. Devin Sauerwein contributed 6 for the Lady Raiders. 

 

For Niles, Kennedy Barrell led the way with 7 points on the night.

 

South Range will be back in action on Monday, as they travel to Girard to take on the Lady Indians. Niles will also be back in action on Monday, as they host Struthers. Don’t miss it on YSN!

BULLDOGS NOT PHASED BY NILES

NILES OH- Poland continued their long road trip to open the season Monday night as they traveled to Niles and dominated the Dragons. Holding Niles to just one point in the second frame, Poland took a 38-10 lead into the break. They didn’t look back and rolled 64-22.

Connie Cougras led the Bulldogs with 10 points. It was a Bulldog offense that saw 12 different players get into the stat sheet. Katie McDonald chipped 8 points and Abby Farber added 7.

Niles was led by Abby Reed, and BROOKE Money who both scored 6 points.

Poland will finally have their home opener on Thursday as they host Struthers. Niles stays home on Thursday to host Hubbard.

FALCONS START THE SEASON STRONG

ASHTABULA OH- The Lady Falcons Basketball team put together a great four quarters on both ends of the floor defeating Ashtabula Lakeside on Wednesday evening by a score of 66-21.

The victory was the first for first-year head coach Jeff Wilson.

Junior Zayda Creque lead the way with 23 points and sophomore Ayla Ray added 14 points.

The team is back on the court on Saturday when they travel to Salem for a 1:30 PM tip-off.

RAIDERS STAY ON TRACK

NILES OH- The Raiders came into Bo Rein stadium looking to exact some revenge for the last time they were there. It was the last time the Raiders lost an NE8 game. The got that revenge Friday night with a 41-0 win.

South Range got the opening drive and went right down the field and scored. The offense never looked back. They scored on 6 of the 7 drives they had on the evening. And the defense showed up and pitched a shut out. The closest the Red Dragons got was late in the forth when they made it down to the 4 yard line. But the Raider D stepped up and kept them out of the end zone.
The Raiders had a balanced attack. Billy Skripac was 8-10 for 166yrds and 3 touchdowns. Dylan Dominguez had 14 carries for 106 yards and 1 td. Leading receiver was Shane Lindstrom with 3 catches for 78 yards and 2 tds.

The highlight for Niles was Antuan Gardner. The sophomore running back had 84 yards running the ball.

Niles travels to Struthers next week and the Raiders return home to face Jefferson.

LEWIS HITS 1000 DIGS IN DRAGONS SWEEP

NILES OH- There were many reasons to be happy on Wednesday if you are a Niles volleyball fan. First, standout Logan Lewis collected her 1000th career dig, then the Dragons completed a sweep of Warren Harding. (25-14 25-7 25-7)

Alaina Thigpen led a very balanced Dragon attack with 6 kills. Seven different Dragons got a kill in the match. Logan Lewis had 5 kills, 9 aces, and 8 digs. Jenna Melius led the team in assists totaling in 15. She completed s double double by leading the team in digs with 13.

The Dragons get back at it on Thursday as they travel to Poland.

POLAND PUTS DOWN DRAGONS

POLAND OH-

Mary Brant would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Thursday, driving in four on three hits to lead Poland past Niles 17-1 on Thursday. Brant drove in runs on a double in the first, a double in the first, and a double in the second.

Poland secured the victory thanks to 13 runs in the first inning. Their offense in the inning was led by Abby Farber, Brant, Connie Cougras, Gia Schiavone, Leanne Williams, and Ella Gaffney, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Katie McDonald took the win for Poland. The righthander allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Poland collected 18 hits on the day. Brant, Emily Denney, McDonald, Cougras, Farber, Cameryn Lattanzio, and Schiavone each collected multiple hits. Denney and Brant each managed three hits to lead.
