BEAVERS SCORE FIRST VICTORY

Beaver Local softball,in search of their first victory of the season, wanted nothing more than to get that elusive win against arch rival East Liverpool. The Beavers were all business as they pounded out 12 hits en route to a 9-2 road win on Wednesday.

The Red and White wasted little time as Olivia Keller would double and Lauren Piscitelli would follow that with a 2-run homerun giving the Beavers an early 2-0 lead.  Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the 3rd the Beavers would separate themselves from their opponent. Oliva Keller and Halle Jordan would each add an RBI double, while Lora Reeder contributed an RBI single increasing the lead to 5-1.

That lead was all that Beaver Local Keller (7IP,14K,1H) would need in the circle going the distance allowing zero earned runs on one hit.  Halle Jordan dazzled at the plate going 4-4 with 4 RBI in the Beavers victory.

Delani Ice contributed the lone hit for the Potters.    Beaver Local (1-6) will take that momentum with them as they visit Union Local on Thursday.

THE TICE IS RIGHT; POTTERS BOUNCE BACK AGAINST EDISON

RICHMOND, OH- One day after Potter pitching broke down giving up 18 runs in the span of two innings, the Blue Machine bounced back in a big way- blanking Edison 1-0 to split the season series.

The best chance for East Liverpool came early bottom of third inning with the bases loaded, Kaleb Whitmore induced Evan TIce to flyout to left to end the threat.

When we fast forward to the bottom of 7th inning when Jake Smith and Paxton Grimes got aboard via errors.  Edison loaded the bases with an intentional walk of Devin Toothman bringing imposing left-hander Mason Ludwig to the plate,  the strategy paid off early as Ludwig grounded to second base with a force play at the plate, Which brought up the sophomore standout Tice to try and win it for the Potters, the catcher came through with a deep flyball to right-center, allowing Paxton Grimes to cap off his night and score the winning run.

Tice would go 1-4 on the night with the only RBI of the game, while Anderson Fitch also contributed a knock in the contest.

Paxton Grimes gets the victory on the bump, going the distance giving up three hits, and fanning another three.

Kaleb Whitmore went 4 2/3 innings striking out four, giving up just two hits, and two walks.  Matt Parsons started the contest and pitched a pair of innings and struck out two.

Cole Pittman, Matt Parsons, and Gage Cline each had hits for the Wildcats.

For the second night in a row, both teams combined for 5 hits.

East Liverpool (1-1) is scheduled to to take on Harrison Central on Friday, April 1st while Edison (1-1) will travel to Beaver on Friday as well.

EDISON OPENS NEW FACILITY IN STYLE, UPENDS EAST LIVERPOOL

RICHMOND, OH- It was a day that some will never forget- as the Edison Wildcats opened up their brand new all-turf facilities to regular season play on Tuesday.  Although the conditions were sunny, it was anything but warm.  With temperatures at 39 degrees at first pitch, it was mind over matter for Edison as they cashed in at seemingly every opportunity throughout the game on their way to an 18-0 victory.

East Liverpool watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 18-0 loss to Edison Wildcats on Wednesday. Edison scored on a sacrifice fly by Isaac Zastudil and a single by Eli Wilson in the first inning.  Potter pitchers could not shake the cold, as they walked 13 of the 39 batters faced, and hit an additional five batters.

The Potters struggled to put runs on the board as well with only a pair of hits.

Edison got on the board in the first inning. Matt Parsons was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

One bright spot for the Potters was a single by Paxton Grimes in the first inning and a Mason Ludwig stolen base in the second.

Hunter Rothacker was credited with the victory for Edison. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out three. Gage Cline threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Mason Ludwig took the loss for the Potters. The southpaw surrendered eight runs on two hits over one inning, striking out two.  Grimes led East Liverpool with two hits in three at-bats.

The teams will try to get back into action today at East Liverpool to end the season series, Game time is set for 5pm.

LUDWIG TO TOLEDO: LEAVING TOP RECRUITS CHASIN’ MASON

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- There was an arms race in Northeast Ohio, and unless you were near Potter Country- you probably knew very little about it.  However, in the days, weeks, and for years to come, East Liverpool Potter multi-sport athlete Mason Ludwig will be making sure you remember his name.

The 6’5, 280 pound prospect made his commitment to the University of Toledo last week after being courted by 14 Division I institutions to protect their backfield.  Ludwig who has been stacking up accolade after accolade, and making fans reimagine what a multi-sport athlete looks like, and how he performs on the court.

You see, Mason just doesn’t play the sports he competes in.  He excels in them.  He moves mountains in football, can transition to quickness in hoops, and can hit from beyond the arc, and he ABSOLUTELY mashes in baseball.  With his intimidating presence on the field, his soft-spoken nature presents a peace that can only be settled on the field of play- but he’s as engaged in the classroom as he is between the lines, promoting a 3.9 GPA at ELHS.

We had the chance to sit down with the future Rocket and talk shop before practice on this East Liverpool Player Profile: Chasin’ Mason.

EAST LIVERPOOL BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BRIAN MAY

EAST LIVERPOOL OH-  In The Buckeye 8 North Conference, amongst all the “Mikes” one “Brian” stands out amongst the rest. That is, of course, Head Coach Brian May of The East Liverpool Potters. Which look primed to compete in their gauntlet of a conference.  The same conference that features tough competition such as Indian Creek, Edison and longtime rival Beaver Local.  Coach May and The Potters are on a mission to face some of the best pitching they can find before the start of the tournament. The conference provides such; however, they cross state lines a few times, squaring off with some of West Virginia’s best this season!

Ty and Anthony from Running Point talk with Coach May, as he gets to highlight The 2022 Potters! Weather providing, East Liverpool will travel to Edison to open up the season on Monday, March 28th.

LADY BULLDOGS RIP OFF THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

EAST PALESTINE, OH- After starting the season without a victory, Coach Will Franklin and the East Palestine Girls Basketball Team have turned things around, and are catching the eye of the area as a team on a mission.  With a great team victory on Thursday night against East Liverpool, 30-29, the Lady Bulldogs have caught fire at the right time.

In what became a one-bucket game for most of the contest, both teams were going back and forth with defense being the main attraction.

For East Palestine, they only needed three scorers to close the deal.  Mia Lee led all scorers with 19, and had some “Mia Magic” down the stretch for EP.  Patience Champney had a slow start to the game, but ended in a big way on her last time on her home floor- Champney left the court with 9 including some big buckets and free throws in clutch situations.  Gabby Andre had the biggest bucket of the game, and what turned out to be the difference-maker when all was said and done.

The Lady Potters spread the ball around, but the storyline was Delani Ice’s big shots from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter.  Ice was able to drill a pair of big three pointer’s to tie and give her team a lead respectively.  Dacianelle Andrews was solid underneath the hoop and led the Blue and White with 8 points, and Shayla Foster controlled the tempo with six points.

East Palestine will now turn their focus to Lisbon on Saturday for their finale of the EOAC campaign and then prepare for Liberty to start their tournament.
