Eastlake, OH- The Lakeside Dragons traveled to Eastlake tonight as the North Rangers played host in a non-conference matchup. Both teams were looking to start the season off with a bang. However, we would have to wait until the second half of the ballgame to see points put onto the scoreboard. The first half, both teams fought tooth and nail for any advantage against one another, and neither side was able to capitalize. The half time score board sat at 0-0.

Once the teams rejoined the field out of halftime, the Lakeside Dragons wasted no time with their first possession of the second half as senior quarterback Omar Ambriz broke the stalemate with 8:22 left to go on a 6 yard keeper to put the Dragons up 7-0 with a made PAT following. The following drive for the Rangers they would stall out and punt the ball away to the Dragons and in doing so pinned them deep inside their own 10 yard line. Little did they know, junior linebacker Alexavier Harris would make a great read on defense and return an interception for a touchdown to tie the game at 7 with 5:13 left in the 3rd. The remainder of the quarter was a stalemate as both teams continued fighting back and forth.

As time ticked away, the Dragons scored with 7:56 left to go in the 4th as Nate Bartone found the back of the endzone on a 3 yard carry to put the Dragons back up 13-7. The snap was low on the PAT and the Rangers defense held strong. Nearly 5 minutes later, the Rangers regained the lead with running back Drake Martinez, carrying the workload for a majority of the game. Martinez crossed into the endzone with 2:15 left in the ball game, leaving the Dragons with one more shot at a victory. One minute and 14 seconds was all the Lakeside Dragons needed to score on offense. As they marched right down the field, methodically in just 74 seconds. The Dragons regained the lead on a Devan Miller carry of 4 yards, and the two point conversion from Omar Ambriz was good, giving the Dragons the lead with just 1:01 remaining. The Rangers got the ball back but were not able to capitalize with the little amount of time left on the clock and the Lakeside Dragons came out victorious on the road to give first year head coach Terrence Henton his first victory.

Next week on August 30th the Dragons(1-0)  will be on the road yet again, this time they will travel to Notre Dame Cathedral Latin (0-1), located in Chardon.
