CRESTVIEW CAPS OFF REGULAR SEASON PERFECTION

COLUMBIANA OH- In a resounding conclusion to their regular season, the Crestview volleyball team showcased their unwavering dominance by sweeping Salem in straight sets. With scores of 25-9, 25-8, and 25-9, the Rebels solidified their perfect season, and it was a display of teamwork, power, and precision.

Crestview’s standout athletes once again shone brightly, led by the remarkable Abbey Emch. She delivered an impressive performance with 16 kills, accompanied by eight crucial digs and five impactful blocks. Her versatility and consistent brilliance have been a driving force behind Crestview’s success all season.

The Auer sisters, Grace and Lainy, continued to demonstrate their dynamic partnership on the court. Grace tallied 14 kills, and her contribution extended beyond offense as she added 17 assists and an astonishing 11 digs to complete a remarkable triple-double. Meanwhile, Lainy earned herself a double-double, with six kills, 18 assists, and 10 crucial digs. Their synchronized play has been a cornerstone of Crestview’s unrivaled performance.

Julia Blasko proved her worth with four kills and an impressive 15 digs. The defensive skills and resilience of Emily Downey, who registered six digs, and Katie Lissi, who recorded seven crucial digs, further fortified Crestview’s impenetrable defense.

HULETT HAMMERS IT HOME

MINERAL RIDGE OH- In the hallowed halls of Mineral Ridge High School, there exists an extraordinary athlete named Ava Hulett, whose talents span across multiple sports. A true triple threat, she excels not only in volleyball but also in basketball and track and field. While her prowess is undeniable across all these disciplines, today, we shed light on her remarkable journey as a junior outside hitter for the Mineral Ridge volleyball team.

Ava’s journey in volleyball has been nothing short of remarkable. She entered the sport as a promising player and has transformed into a beacon of leadership and excellence for her team. While her statistics speak volumes, it’s her emotional and energetic presence on the court that sets her apart. She’s not just a statistical leader; she’s the driving force behind the Rams’ successes.

One of Ava’s standout achievements this season was reaching her 1,000th career dig, a testament to her exceptional defensive skills. But she’s not stopping there. With an impressive 313 kills, 317 digs, and 35 aces in the 2023 season, she’s well on her way to achieving 1,000 career kills, an incredible milestone that few attain. Her hitting percentage of .263 demonstrates her accuracy and effectiveness in attack.

Ava’s averages of 4.3 kills and 4.3 digs per set showcase her well-rounded abilities and her invaluable contributions to the team’s performance.

As the Rams prepare for an exciting tournament run, they know they can rely on Ava to bring her A-game. Her unwavering dedication and extraordinary talent will undoubtedly be key factors in their quest for success. RESERVE REIGNS OVER THE RAIDERS

BERLIN CENTER OH- In a resounding display of their dominance, the Western Reserve volleyball team delivered a commanding performance, securing a 3-0 victory over Warren Harding. With set scores of 25-11, 25-8, and 25-11, the Blue Devils showcased their formidable skills and improved their impressive record to 21-1.

Western Reserve’s triumph was fueled by the exceptional efforts of several key players who made significant contributions to their team’s victory. Lisa Eichert shone as an offensive force, recording an impressive 10 kills, while also exhibiting her all-around capabilities with three aces and seven crucial digs. Angelina Cappabianca complemented the team’s offensive prowess with nine kills, one block, three digs, and an ace. Alyvia Hughes demonstrated her serving prowess, amassing eight aces, and added six kills and seven digs to her impressive performance. Abby Blair showcased her defensive skills with four blocks and contributed six kills and two assists, demonstrating her all-around abilities on the court.

The Blue Devils’ victory was a testament to their skill, teamwork, and determination. With a 21-1 record, they are clearly a force to be reckoned with in the world of high school volleyball.

Warren Harding displayed their sportsmanship and determination throughout the match, and their resilience is bound to serve them well in their future competitions.

MCDONALD BRINGS THE CLIPPERS DOWN TO EARTH

COLUMBIANA OH- In a high-stakes battle to close out the regular season, the McDonald volleyball team delivered an unforgettable performance by sweeping a formidable Columbiana squad in an exhilarating matchup. With scores of 25-22, 30-28, and 25-18, the Blue Devils showcased their skill and determination on the court, earning a massive victory and handing Columbiana their second loss of the year.

The Blue Devils were led by a trio of exceptional athletes who left an indelible mark on this pivotal match. Gianna Costantino was an offensive powerhouse, delivering 17 kills while also displaying her defensive prowess with 20 crucial digs, earning herself a remarkable double-double. Julianna Krumpak contributed five kills and 14 digs, consistently providing support for her team. Megan Klockner showcased incredible versatility, orchestrating the offense with 30 assists while also notching an impressive double-double with 14 digs and four kills. Miley Titus displayed her defensive prowess, amassing 16 digs throughout the game.

Columbiana fought valiantly throughout the match, with key players making significant contributions to their team’s efforts. Ellie Jackson exhibited her skill as a multi-dimensional player, tallying 11 kills, 14 assists, and eight digs. Kelsey Cameron matched her intensity, securing 10 kills and 10 digs to complete her well-deserved double-double. Danica Halas showcased her offensive prowess with 10 kills and contributed five digs in support. Cameron Perkins displayed remarkable poise and precision, amassing 21 assists and 16 digs, earning her a well-deserved double-double. Ava Heinrich showcased her defensive tenacity with 16 digs, complemented by two aces.

The resounding victory for McDonald highlights the incredible talent and determination of their team, finishing the regular season on a high note. Meanwhile, Columbiana’s resilience and competitiveness make them a force to be reckoned with as they head into postseason play.

LADY DOGS BUST OUT BROOMS ON SENIOR NIGHT

EAST PALESTINE, OH- On a special Senior Night, the East Palestine Lady Bulldogs delivered an impressive performance as they took on the Southeast Pirates in a spirited volleyball match. The Lady Bulldogs put on an extraordinary display of teamwork, determination, and skill, ultimately winning the contest in three sets: 25-22, 25-14, 25-10.

Mackenzie Parker was an undeniable force for East Palestine, showcasing her versatility with an outstanding performance. She contributed 12 digs, 11 assists, 4 kills, and 3 aces, making a significant impact on both offense and defense.

Elle Berger displayed her prowess with a fantastic display of power, tallying 7 kills and 12 digs. Her consistent and powerful hitting was a key factor in East Palestine’s victory.

Sophia Fertsch was another standout for the Lady Bulldogs, with 5 kills, 9 digs, and 3 aces. Her ability to put the ball away and her contributions from the service line were instrumental in securing the win.

Leila Martin had an impressive night on the defensive end, recording an incredible 13 digs. Her quick reactions and solid passing were crucial in setting up the East Palestine offense.

As they celebrate this significant win, the East Palestine Lady Bulldogs will now shift their focus to the Division IV tournament, where they are set to face Bristol next Wednesday. With the momentum from this win, they will be looking to carry their success into the upcoming tournament games.

 

POLAND BULLDOGS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH ZAC CAPAN

POLAND, OH – Head coach Tom Pavlansky has built not only a solid football program at Poland but also has one of the best coaching staffs in the area too. One such staff member, Zac Capan, has been around football for a very long time as he played college ball at Waynesburg and got into coaching. with Coach Pav at Lakeview and now to Poland.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Capan this week at Combine Brothers to discuss the season so far, what he thinks the Bulldogs are capable of this post season, what his coaching background is like, what led him to coaching at Poland, and so much more.

POLAND, OH – Caden Catcott and Matthew Matiste are two exceptional senior soccer players who have left an indelible mark on the Poland Bulldogs soccer program. Caden, a dynamic player, has been a key figure in the team’s success with his blazing speed and great finishing. POLAND, OH – JD Memo, a senior standout for the Poland Bulldogs, is a remarkable student-athlete who exceled on both sides of the football as a wide receiver and defensive back until an unfortunate injury. Thankfully JD will be able to suit up tomorrow night to get back out on the field with his teammates. His agility and lightning-fast reflexes make him a force to be reckoned with in the secondary, where he showcases his ability to read plays, intercept passes, and disrupt opponents’ plays. On offense, JD’s combination of speed and sure hands transforms him into a reliable target, consistently making receptions and turning them into valuable yards. His relentless pursuit of excellence and his knack for making game-changing plays have left his mark on the team, embodying the spirit of hard work and determination that defines the Poland Bulldogs.
