Hubbard, OH- Looking to protect their home field, the Hubbard Eagles soared to a commanding 12-2 triumph over the Conneaut Spartans on Thursday.
Conneaut initially made their mark in the first inning, with Dylan Philip’s double driving in two runs.
However, the Hubbard Eagles swiftly seized control, claiming the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Braydon Songer’s timely double brought in two runs, propelling the Eagles ahead 3-2.
The Eagles continued their offensive onslaught in the third inning, scoring five runs despite registering just one hit. Gabe Rusnak’s single and Noah Adamson’s sacrifice fly contributed to the run tally, along with a passed ball and an error.
Joey Komlanc delivered a stellar performance on the mound for the Eagles, earning the win after conceding just three hits and two runs over four innings while striking out five batters and issuing three walks.
On the Spartans’ side, Lincoln Wade started the game but faced challenges, allowing seven runs (five earned) over two innings.
Rusnak stepped up for the Eagles in relief, tossing one inning of scoreless baseball and striking out three batters without allowing a hit.
At the plate, Songer led the Eagles’ offensive charge, going 1-for-2 and driving in two runs as the leadoff hitter. Andrew Kali also contributed with two hits in three at-bats.
The Eagles demonstrated disciplined plate discipline, drawing eight walks throughout the game, with Geno Leshnack and Danny Scarmack each receiving two free passes.
Defensively, the Eagles turned a crucial double play, showcasing their defensive prowess.
Philip stood out for the Spartans, providing offensive firepower with two runs batted in.
Looking ahead, the Hubbard Eagles will hit the road to face McKinley in their next game on Monday, while the Spartans will host the St. John Heralds on Saturday in a home matchup.
