TATAR BOMBS LEAD TIGERS TO ROUT IN ROOTSTOWN

ROOTSTOWN OH- Howland showcased their dominance on Friday night, delivering a commanding 10-0 shutout victory over Rootstown.

At the plate, Brooke Tatar led the offensive charge, going 3-4 with an impressive three home runs, driving in 4 runs and scoring 3 herself. Alyssa Massucci also contributed significantly, going 2-4 with a home run, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Madison Schmitz, Sydney VaNess, and Abigail Lewis each added key hits and RBIs to bolster Howland’s offense.

In the circle, Tatar showcased her skill set not only with the bat but also with her arm, pitching 5 innings, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 8 batters, keeping Rootstown off the scoreboard. Maya Kubanscek came in for relief and continued the shutout, pitching 2 innings with 3 strikeouts and not allowing any hits or runs.

BOARDMAN TAKES DOWN STATE POWER HOUSE ON THE ROAD

LAGRANGE OH- In an impressive road performance, Boardman Softball took down the division 3 powerhouse, Keystone, with a 7-3 victory on Friday night.

Boardman’s offense came out swinging, led by Ellie Wymer, who went 3-4 with a home run, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Mikayla Rivera also contributed a home run, going 2-3 with 1 RBI, 1 walk, and 2 runs scored. Maddie Wymer, Tori Strines, and Ava Freeborough added key hits and RBIs to secure the win.

On the mound, Addie Kowacich started strong, pitching 3 innings with 3 strikeouts, allowing 3 earned runs on 2 hits. Tori Strines came in for relief and shut down Keystone, pitching 4 innings with 6 strikeouts and not allowing any hits or runs.

Boardman’s victory over Keystone is a testament to their strength and resilience as they continue to make their mark in the softball scene.

CANFIELD ANSWERS THE DOGS RALLY IN EXTRAS

POLAND OH- In a rain-soaked battle between Canfield and Poland, the rivalry between these two softball powerhouses added another thrilling chapter on Friday night.

Canfield jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, only to see it vanish as Poland rallied back, sending the game into extra innings. However, Canfield held their nerve to secure an 11-7 victory in 8 innings.

Jenna Triveri was instrumental for Canfield, both at the plate and in the outfield, making multiple diving catches in center field. She went 2-3 with 2 RBI, 2 walks, and 3 runs scored. Leah Figueroa contributed with a home run and 3 walks, while Alexis Johnson, Faith Morell, Caylee Ortiz, and Alex Ignazio each added crucial hits and RBIs.

In the circle, Caylee Ortiz pitched 6.2 solid innings, allowing just 1 earned run to keep Canfield in the game.

For Poland, Elliana Thompson led the offensive charge, going 3-5 with 3 RBI, followed by Kylee Hudran and Cassie Blatch with multiple hits and RBIs. Avery Jakubovic and Leanna Boccieri also contributed to Poland’s offense.

Despite Olivia Horn’s impressive 5 strikeouts over 8 innings, Poland couldn’t contain Canfield’s resilient offense in the end.

MOONEY PLANTS THEIR FLAG AS VALLEY’S BEST

BOARDMAN OH- In a dominant performance, Mooney Lacrosse extended their undefeated streak against the valley’s teams with a resounding 17-5 victory over Boardman, improving their record to 11-3.

Ella Szalay showcased her talent with 5 goals and an impressive 10 draw controls, leading Mooney’s offensive charge. Molly Simons also had a standout game, contributing 5 goals and 6 ground balls. Angelee Blasko played a key role with 2 goals and 3 assists, while Lexi Italiano and Natalie Blasko each added 2 goals. Frankie Cassese rounded out the scoring with 1 goal.

In goal, Alyssa Ray was stellar, recording 10 saves to anchor Mooney’s defense and secure the win.

With this victory, Mooney remains undefeated against local lacrosse teams and continues to assert their dominance in the valley. They now look ahead to their next challenge as they travel to face Akron St. V’s in their upcoming game at 10am.

RUNNING WEDNESDAYS WITH RICK SYPERT (EP 3) FEATURING BROCK FARRIS & BLAKE BAKER

Another week has come and gone at the track, and yes there is a ton to go over.  With a huge Chuck of results coming in from the Poland Invitational, and beyond you can tell these runners are starting to find their groove as we race towards post season. Rick Sypert and Anthony Hartwig are back this week to go over all the biggest names and times from the prior week.  They also preview the week ahead which is highlighted by the Trumbull County Championships.

This week the show brings on two special guests. Current rivals, and future teammates a rock Farris and Blake Bsker.  Brock from Boardman has etched his name in record books and is considered one of the best in the region.  While Blake represents the Spartans AAC rival Canfield with speed that is seldomly seen.  Both athletes have a massive reputation that goes far beyond their talent on the track.  The sportsmanship and grace in which they carry themselves had granted them the respect of the entire Track & Field community.  Both Brock and Blake look to continue their track careers at Youngstown State after graduating high school. But don’t worry Spartan, and Cardinal fans, they still have plenty of goals in their sights before that happens.  Check out Episode 3 of Running Wednesdays with Rick Sypert!

WATERLOO’S WALK OFF PUSHES WIN STREAK TO FOUR

ATWATER OH- In a thrilling contest on Thursday, Waterloo emerged victorious in walk-off fashion against Ravenna, extending their win streak to four games with an 8-7 win.

The hero of the game was Mason Sweitzer, whose clutch hit brought in the game-winning run for Waterloo. Vincent Mori led the offensive charge, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Drew Flarida contributed with a hit, an RBI, and a walk, while Aric May added a hit and 2 RBI.

On the mound, Trevor Simons pitched 6 solid innings for Waterloo, allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 9 batters. Austin Hurst came in for relief, pitching a scoreless inning and securing the win.

 

ROCKETS SCREAM PAST BROOKFIELD

LOWELLVILLE OH- Lowellville cruised to victory on Thursday night, dominating Brookfield with a commanding 13-1 win.

At the plate, Lowellville’s offense was firing on all cylinders. Liam Bartlett led the charge, going 2 for 3 with 4 RBI, including a walk and 3 runs scored. Cody Nolfi also had a stellar performance, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Tino Rivera-Ocasio contributed with a 2 for 3 performance, adding 1 RBI, a walk, and 3 runs scored. Geno Perry chipped in with 1 RBI, along with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.

On the mound, Zak Sargent delivered a strong performance, pitching 5 innings and allowing just 1 hit and 1 earned run while striking out 3 batters.

LIBERTY SALVAGES THE NIGHT WITH A WIN

COLUMBIANA OH- Liberty salvaged their night on Thursday by finishing a suspended game with Crestview, narrowly escaping with a 7-5 win.

Sarah Spisak led the charge for Liberty’s offense, going 1 for 2 with 2 RBI, a walk, and 2 runs scored. Rachel Strohmeyer contributed with 1 RBI and 1 walk, while Sara Horn and Brooklyn Ciminero each drove in a run. Mia Parker and Bella Hernandez also scored for Liberty.

On the mound, Strohmeyer pitched 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and striking out 8, to secure the win.

Crestview put up a fight, with Emma Snyder leading their offense by going 2 for 2 with a run scored. Eme Cook, Katie Lissi, and Chloe Stoops also contributed with hits and runs scored.

Crestview’s pitching, held their ground, with Miller pitching 5 innings, allowing 7 hits, 6 earned runs, and striking out 7.

BRAVES HAVE ENOUGH TO GET BY LORDSTOWN

KINSMAN OH- In a high-scoring matchup, Badger came out victorious with a hard-fought 9-7 win over Lordstown.

Badger’s offense came through when they needed it most. Elizabeth Price led the charge, going 2 for 5 with 3 RBI, while Kami Durst contributed with a 2 for 3 performance, driving in 2 runs and scoring twice. Samantha Bradbury added a hit and a run scored, and Brianna Huscroft scored 2 runs on 2 hits.

BEAVERS BUILD UP A MASSIVE VICTORY

WELLSVILLE OH- Beaver Local dominated Thursday night’s softball game, cruising to a 14-0 victory over Wellsville.

The Beaver offense was on fire, led by Addison Eells who went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Lainie Bock contributed with a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate, driving in 2 runs and scoring 3 times. Lily Schrieber also had a strong showing, going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Tatum Duncan and Ciara Call added to the offensive onslaught, each contributing hits and runs scored.

In the circle, Megan Henrich was outstanding, pitching a complete game shutout. She allowed just 1 hit and recorded 9 strikeouts in 5 innings of work.
