Soccer is a sport that continues to grow at an incredible rate in the area.  We feel it still doesn’t get talked about enough, so we’re gonna fix that! Not only has YSN ramped up their live soccer broadcasts, for the first time we’ve gotten some soccer experts together to talk about the big picture of the sport in the YSN family.  Two of the networks best voices of the sport join Anthony Hartwig on Running Point to talk about the local stars on the pitch! CAMPBELL, OH – Arianna Gonzalez and Rayona Floyd-Brown are rising stars in the world of cheerleading, both embarking on their journey as freshman members of the Campbell Memorial cheerleading squad. Both ladies share an innate passion for athleticism and a flair for the spirited, Arianna and Rayona quickly made their presence known on the squad. Arianna, with her personality and boundless energy, brings an infectious enthusiasm to every game and event. Her dedication to perfecting her routines and uplifting her teammates has made her an essential part of the squad’s success. On the other hand, Rayona’s grace and precision are nothing short of extraordinary. Her commitment to training and her ability to inspire confidence in her fellow cheerleaders has earned her the admiration and respect of the entire squad. Together, Arianna Gonzalez and Rayona Floyd-Brown are the embodiment of teamwork, spirit, and talent, setting the bar high for what’s to come in their promising cheerleading careers at Campbell Memorial.

CAMPBELL, OH – Malik Young is a rising star on the Campbell Memorial Red Devils football team, making his mark as a versatile and dynamic player. As a junior, he has already established himself as a key contributor both as a running back and outside linebacker. With lightning speed and exceptional agility, Malik has become a potent force on the offensive side of the ball, frequently breaking through the opposition’s defenses with powerful runs and elusive maneuvers. Defensively, he’s equally impressive, known for his ability to read the game, make crucial tackles, and create turnovers. Malik’s dedication to his craft and his unwavering work ethic make him an invaluable asset to the team, and his future in football looks incredibly promising.

Kaleb Boudrey, a sophomore wide receiver and outside linebacker, is another rising talent for the Red Devils football team. Despite his young age, Kaleb has already demonstrated remarkable skills on both sides of the field. As a wide receiver, he possesses exceptional hands and route-running abilities, often making incredible catches and turning short passes into substantial gains. Defensively, Kaleb’s speed and instincts make him a formidable presence, disrupting opposing offenses and making crucial tackles. With his passion for the game and commitment to improvement, Kaleb is a player to watch as he continues to evolve and contribute to the team’s success.

Together, this dynamic duo exemplify the dedication and talent that define the Campbell Memorial Red Devils football team. SPARTANS PROTECT THEIR HOME

BOARDMAN OH- In a thrilling conference matchup, Boardman’s volleyball team showcased their prowess on their home court, securing a four-set victory over Canfield in an impressive display of skill and determination. The final scores of 25-15, 25-14, 14-25, and 25-12 highlighted Boardman’s ability to protect their home turf and secure a significant win.

Several key players stepped up for Boardman, making pivotal contributions to their victory. Maya Flores, MC Werth, and Ava Bosnjak were instrumental on the offensive front, each tallying 6 kills, providing a consistent source of scoring for their team. Cici Johnson’s exceptional performance at the net was a game-changer, as she notched an incredible 7 total blocks, making it challenging for Canfield to find openings.

Ava Bosnjak showcased her all-around abilities with 6 kills, 12 points, and 1 ace, underlining her impact both offensively and from the service line. In the back row, Gianna Cicchillo displayed her defensive prowess with an impressive 21 digs, showcasing her ability to keep the play alive. Jasmine Graham and Sadie Satterfield also contributed significantly with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, reinforcing Boardman’s defensive efforts.

Ava Commons orchestrated the team’s offense with precision, tallying 23 assists and contributing 3 points, ensuring smooth and efficient execution of the team’s plays.

Boardman’s ability to dominate the first two sets and then regroup to secure the fourth set was a testament to their resilience and teamwork. While Canfield fought back with a strong third set, Boardman’s composure allowed them to close out the match convincingly in the fourth set.

CAMPBELL MEMORIAL RED DEVILS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 6) WITH ANDREW KING

CAMPBELL, OH – Coming off a tough road game at Crestview, head coach Andrew King and the Campbell Memorial Red Devils (1-4) are looking to right the ship and get back to their winning ways. Last week saw the Red Devils fall, 44-20, to the Rebels and this week will be another challenge as they will travel up to Garrettsville Garfield to take on the undefeated G-men in week six.

YSN’s own, Chris Sigler, was able to sit down with Coach King at Tavern 26 this week to discuss last week’s game at Crestview, what he and his staff have been implementing this week in practice to get the Red Devils back on track, and what his keys to victory are for a very tough opponent in Garrettsville Garfield this week.

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – It’s week six and the Springfield Tigers look like they are hitting their stride. They have put up one hundred and twenty-seven points over the last two weeks. And while the running game has been a big component that teams can’t overlook the passing threat this team poses. And that’s made possible in part thanks to the big play threat of senior Dylan Sheely. Sheely plays wide receiver and cornerback for the Tigers. Sheely’s ability to get open in tight coverage alongside of his explosive speed makes him a favorite target in the passing game. He also has been getting involved in the rushing game along with playing the defensive side of the ball. But his favorite position is receiver and that’s where he thrives.

YSN’s own, Noah Doughty, had the opportunity to o sit down with Dylan this week at Tiger’s Table, to talk about how being apart of the state run during their freshman year has shaped this senior class, what he thinks this team can accomplish this season, what it means playing for Springfield and the support means to him, and rapid fire questions where we learn more about Dylan both on and off the field.

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – We are halfway through the season and the Springfield Tigers offense has been explosive. And a big part of that has been the blocking they received not only from the offensive line but the fullback well. The fullback’s ability to step up and block for both the run and pass game has made them one of the unsung heroes of this team.  This week we got to catch up with senior fullback and linebacker Davin McKinney. McKinney has been battling injuries this season but made his senior year debut against Mathews last Friday. Davin was a letter winner last year for the Tigers and is looking forward to being able to make an impact down the stretch.

YSN’s own, Noah Doughty, had the opportunity to to sit down with Davin this week at Tiger’s Table, to talk about what it’s like dealing with injuries your senior year, what got him into football, what it’s like playing with group of seniors, what his outlook for him and the team is for the rest of the season, alongside some rapid fire question to get to know Davin better both on and off the field.

ROCKETS HAVE A BIG REBOUND

LOWELLVILLE OH- Lowellville’s volleyball team rebounded with a triumphant four-set victory over Sebring, demonstrating their resilience and determination to get back on track. The match unfolded with closely contested sets, with final scores of 23-25, 25-12, 26-24, and 25-23, ultimately favoring Lowellville.

Key players for Lowellville made significant contributions to secure the victory. Aryana Romano showcased her offensive prowess with 8 kills and contributed 8 digs, highlighting her impact on both ends of the court. Mia Mangine displayed her versatility with 5 kills, 4 aces, and 11 digs, showcasing her ability to score and serve effectively while also contributing defensively.

Alyssa Kuzan played a pivotal role in facilitating the team’s offense, tallying an impressive 18 assists. Defensively, Sophia Alfano showcased her skills with 18 digs, reinforcing Lowellville’s backcourt. Bella Willrich was instrumental in the team’s defensive efforts, amassing an impressive 22 digs.

Despite a competitive showing by Sebring, Lowellville’s tenacity and teamwork allowed them to secure the victory and regain their momentum. With this win under their belts, Lowellville looks ahead to their next challenge as they host Mathews on Wednesday.

CLIPPERS FIND CLEAR SKIES

COLUMBIANA OH- In a resounding display of volleyball prowess, Columbiana’s undefeated streak remained intact as they swept United in a commanding three-set victory. The final scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-12 reflected Columbiana’s dominance on the court and their commitment to maintaining their perfect record.

The match was marked by standout performances from several key players on the Columbiana team. Ellie Jackson emerged as a versatile and influential player, contributing 6 kills, 11 assists, and 6 digs. Her ability to both score and set up her teammates played a pivotal role in Columbiana’s success. Kelsey Cameron added to the offensive firepower with 6 kills and 3 aces, showcasing her ability to make an impact at the net and from the service line.

Cameron Perkins also made a significant contribution with 4 kills, 13 assists, and 8 digs, highlighting her all-around skills and leadership on the court. Danica Halas joined the offensive effort with 5 kills, further bolstering Columbiana’s attacking prowess.

Defensively, Ava Heinrich stood out with 10 digs and contributed 2 aces and 2 kills, underlining her role as a valuable asset on both ends of the court.

INDIANS HANG ON TO SECURE SWEEP OF STRUTHERS

GIRARD OH- In an intense conference matchup, Girard demonstrated their dominance on the volleyball court as they secured a sweeping victory over Struthers, despite the Wildcats putting up a spirited fight in the final set. The final scores of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-23 showcased Girard’s commanding performance and their ability to maintain their composure in a closely contested third set.

Girard’s offensive powerhouse was led by Bree Latell, who delivered a standout performance with an impressive 18 kills, providing a consistent source of scoring for her team. Nico Cochran also contributed significantly with 10 kills, reinforcing Girard’s attacking prowess. Bailey Walters orchestrated the team’s offense with precision, tallying an impressive 32 assists, highlighting her role as a key playmaker for the team.

The serving game was a crucial element of Girard’s success, with Alexis Pieton leading the way with 16 service points, providing a solid foundation for her team’s performance. Nico Cochran and Bree Latell each added 13 and 2 service points, respectively, while also contributing aces along with Alexis Pieton.
