MCGLONE SENDS THE BALL HOME

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Ursuline Irish have been lucky over these last few years to not only have good
guys at the skill positions and on the line, but also in the special teams unit as well. Senior kicker James
McGlone has been very reliable for Ursuline’s high-powered offenses over these last two years, as he
has made some very big kicks in some big-time moments. This season McGlone is 6-for-7 on field goal
attempts, and 39-for-45 on extra point attempts through 11 games for the Irish.
In this week’s Player Profile, James talks about what it’s like juggling Football and Soccer, what made
him want to come out and kick for the team, and more!

LOWELLVILLE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH LISA MODELSKI

LOWELLVILLE OH- Basketball season is almost here.  As the dates go by and we get closer, we continue to preview the season. Lowellville’s girls program is an interesting one to look at.  Watching them last year, you can tell they have the ability to make waves. Although they lose a chunk of their consistent scoring from a year ago, this season they return a lot of talent, and experience.  The Rockets were 10-12 last season, and got a huge tournament win on the road at Badger.  They’ll take the momentum of that win into this year. They open the season at home against Campbell on November 18.

Head coach Lisa Modelski took the time to sit down with Anthony Hartwig to give us a preview of their season.  They talk about key members of their roster, what the biggest strength of the team will be, and so much more. Be ready for the season by checking out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Lisa Modelski

HARD TO CATCH THE E-TRAIN

CANFIELD, OH- If you look back at the history of South Range Football over the years, you’ll find some prestigious names that pepper the record books, and are embossed in trophies around campus.

One name that has made headlines this year has been Junior tailback, Blake Ewert.  A young man that has created a storyline as part of the outstanding stable of horses that make up the South Range backfield in 2022.

Ewert is a power back that has the speed to get around the corner, and blaze past the defensive backfield with little effort.

All of this considered, the talent of Ewert doesn’t even come close to the great young man that he’s become off the field.  Blake is a very soft-spoken, and humble young man who always puts the needs of his family and friends ahead of those of himself.

We were fortunate to catch up with the conductor of the E-Train, Blake Ewert at Legends Food and Drinks and discussed this season, and future goals on and off the field.

NOT TOYING AROUND

BOARDMAN, OH- Chances are if you’ve ever played a South Range team in the last few decades, you’ve either played against, or heard stories about some of the greatest athletes in South Range history: The Toy’s.

The legend continues, as Raider Sophomore standout, Tristan Toy is picking up the pen to add a new chapter to that storied family name.

Toy has quickly made his impact felt on the defensive side of the ball in 2022, becoming one of the hardest hitting defensive backs in the NE8.  However, while his presence is primarily on defense, when he gets reps behind center in reserve time, or when called upon, the Raiders don’t seem to miss a beat there either.

With the Raiders knocking on the door of the state tournament, this chapter of the story could have the best ending yet for the Toy legacy.

We caught up with the ol’ two-niner to discuss the family, friendships, and what he’s learned along the way.

AUSTINTOWN, OH- Austintown Fitch football standout, Deshawn Vaughn was voted into the Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Year Final Vote this past week!

Vaughn served as safety, and QB1 for the Falcons prior to a season-ending injury late in the season, but that certainly did not put a cap on the support of his teammates the rest of the way.

With the win, Vaughn will go head to head with Southern Local’s Wyatt Morris for the 2022 Football Big Dog of the Year honors.  Voting will begin on Wednesday, November 9th, and will conclude the following Monday at midnight, with the winners announced on Tuesday, November 15th on YSN Social Media.

CANFIELD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MATT REEL

CANFIELD OH- It’s just about go time for basketball in Canfield. On the girls side of things, the program is in the middle of a very successful stretch. Last season the Cardinals won a share of the AAC, splitting with Howland. They’re impressive record of 16-7 (6-1) made them one of the most respected programs in the area. In 2022-2023 they move down to Division 2. This gives Canfield a lot of confidence that they can make some postseason moves.  Before all that though they have a tough regular season schedule to get through. The Cardinals open up with a returning district champion welcoming in West Branch on November 22nd.

Head coach Matt Reel goes in to his 13th season at he helm. He was gracious enough to take the time to come on to YSN’s Running Point to preview the year to come. He talks with Anthony Hartwig  about his returning starters, some new faces to watch out for, and so much more. Be sure to check out this awesome season preview in Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Matt Reel.

LANDON ON HIS FEET

CANFIELD, OH- When your play draws comparison to one of the greatest professional football players in history, you can get comfortable with getting a new nickname from your coaching staff.

Landon Moore has done just that.

His alter ego “Lenny” has brought loving admiration from teammates and family alike.  Moore’s other alias has been “Lando” throughout his life, but no matter what you call him these days- it had better come with some respect on it.

The Raider linebacker has upped his game this year to help the Raiders get to the undefeated mark through the regular season, and having his number called plenty of times along the way.  When you game plan for South Range, you have to account for where “15” is going to be on the field, and the simple answer is: everywhere.

Moore will chase you from sideline to sideline, and his speed and agility will limit your ability to earn those critical yards, and you’ll often time find Moore leading the Burgundy swarm that South Range is known for.

We checked in with “Lenny” to speak about the season, his teammates, family, and goals and ambitions for his future.
