BEAVERS WIN OVAC TUNE UP

CAMBRIDGE OH- In a rare 4:00pm start, the Beaver Local volleyball defeated defeated Cambridge 25-17, 25-16, 25-13 in a battle of Buckeye 8 opponents.  Briar Wolski led the team with 15 kills, while Peyton Roberts had 11 of her own.  Aleia Evanko set the team up with 19 assists and Emma Joseph contributed 11 assists and 9 digs.  Chloe Reed provided 20 digs from the back row.

THe Beavers, winners of 8 in a row, are now 14-6 on the season.  Up next is the OVAC Tournament.  The Beavers with this win streak have earned the #2 seed and will host #3 seed Oak Glen on Tuesday at 5:30pm in the 4A OVAC Semi Final. .

LOUISVILLE RECOGNIZES BURICK FOR MILESTONE

LOUISVILLE OH- On Thursday night Louisville took time to recognize Addison Burick on reaching 1000 career assists in the week before.  The Leopards used the momentum to jump out to a 2-0 lead, but couldn’t keep the Crusaders at bay and fell in 5.  (25-18 25-23 23-25 25-27 10-15)

Sloan Sypolt led the Leopards with 15 kills on the night. Brooke Haren was also in double figures with kills finishing with 11 kills.  Lexi Jobe was one kill away from double figures with 9 kills.  Burick mastered the offense and set up 41 assists.  Kait Kardohely led the Leopards defense with 30 digs.

Louisville returns to the floor on Saturday as they host Smithville.  First serve is serve is slated for 11:00 AM.

ESNLEY’S IMPRESSIVE FRESHMAN SEASON ENDS IN DISTRICT

ALLIANCE OH- Congratulations to Freshman Jackson Ensley on a great season.  Jackson finished his freshman season as a 1st Team All MVAC selection and was the Medalist at the MVAC Golf Tournament.  Jackson shot an 88 in the District Tournament held yesterday at Tannenhauf Golf Course.

MOONEY SWINGS A STATE BIRTH

ALLIANCE OH- Cardinal Mooney golf has put their heads down and worked all season long. They’ve felt like underdogs, and they’ve bitten back every time they step foot on the course. On Thursday the Cardinals reached an ultimate goal as they locked in their spot to the State Tournament. The finished third in the district with a team score of 347.

Mooney was led by Rocco Turner who shot a 79 on the day. That would have been good enough to make it to state as an individual had Mooney not qualified as a team.  Alek Eckstein shot a solid 83 for Mooney. Dante Turner added to the Mooney score by shooting a 92.  Tim Reardon was right behind him turning in a score of 93.  Joe Zeno rounded out the Mooney scoring shooting a 115.

Mooney advances to the OHSAA Division III State Tournament which will be held at North Star Golf Club in Sunbury.

 

 

HEARTLAND WINS IN FIVE ON SPECIAL NIGHT IN MALVERN

MALVERN OH- Heartland Christian made a trip to Malvern on Thursday night to participate in a special night. It was the Hornet’s volley for a cute night, and both teams were decked out in pink to bring light to breast cancer awareness.  On the court Heartland win an instant classic in 5 sets, but everyone knows the results of the night go way past the numbers on the scoreboard. Plenty of money was raised for a great cause, and two teams showed that when you come together, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. The set scores for the game were 25-22 25-18 23-25 15-25 15-9.

SALEM FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 5) WITH RON JOHNSON

SALEM OH- The Quakers are coming off a big bounce back victory in Week 7 as they beat Minerva 48-13.  The Quakers are 5-2 on the season but have some big EBC tests coming up on their slate . This week, Salem hosts the Warriors of Carrollton who also sport a 5-2 record.

YSN’s Jarrod Niederhiser got a chance to catch up with Salem head coach Ron Johnson for another edition of Salem Football Coach’s Corner. Hear all coach had to say about the week that was, and what is coming up for the Quakers.

INDIANS END CONFERENCE SCHEDULE STRONG

STRUTHERS OH- Girard came in to Thursday still having a shot at a share of the NE8 championship. They needed to take care of business against Struthers, and then hope South Range would upset Lakeview. Girard did their part as they swept away Struthers. (25-14 25-15 25-9)

Lauren Pallone led the Indians offense by earning 15 kills on the night.  Bree Latell chipped in 10 kills to keep herself in double digits.  Ali Durkin had a great night setting as she finished with 31.  Bailey Walters led Girard’s defense with 16 digs.

 

Girard has their home finale coming up on Saturday as they welcome in undefeated Crestview. Struthers will host Mathews on Tuesday in a non conference test.

WARRIORS TAKE TOUGH LOSS ON THE ROAD IN MASSILLON

MASSILLON OH- The West Branch volleyball team dropped three sets at Massillon on Thursday 22-25, 16-25, and 20-25.  The girls are now 15-5 on the year with one game left in the regular season.

Leading the Warriors was Hannah Rush with six points, four aces, and 16 assists.  Claire Brunner added nine kills and four blocks while Ragan Greeneisen had 14 digs.

The Warriors will head to Boardman on Saturday to take on the Spartans at 11:30 AM.

CAMPBELL TAKES A SWEEP OVER THE TIGERS

CAMPBELL OH- The Red Devils added another win inside the MVAC to their belt on Thursday night as they welcomed in Newton Falls. They weren’t the kindest of hosts, as they made quick work of the Tigers in three sets. (25-21 25-16 25-18)

Kendall Brunn was as impressive as ever leading the offense with 16 kills and a match hitting percentage of .467.  Angeliz Diaz was also able to contribute a solid 9 kills.  Carla Ramirez Ortiz set up the offense well finishing with 26 assists.  Diaz, and Cyra Cross both led the Devils with 12 digs each.  Ramirez Ortiz locked in a double double with 10 digs.

 

Campbell finished their MVAC skate at 6-8 in the conference. They’ll travel to Badger on Monday for a non conference test.
