WEST BRANCH DOMINATES ON THE ROAD

West Branch got another solid win to add to their belt on Friday afternoon as they quickly beat Girard 13-0,

Ryley Pittman got the mound win 4 hits, 8 strikes outs.

Josie Milliken finished a nice day with  2 hits, and 3RBI.  Sydney Mercer collected 2 hits, a triple, and 2 RBI.  Addi Craven doubled.  The Warriors offense added singles by Morgan Loudon, Tori McKay, Skyler Greeneisen, Ragan Greeneisen and Ryley Pittman.

Next game for the Warriors is Saturday at home against Mineral Ridge(DH) Game 1 begins at Noon

CLIPPERS KEEP INDIANS IN CHECK

COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana picked up its 8th win of the season Thursday afternoon with a 14-2 defeat of the Girard Indians.  Columbiana jumped out early with two runs in the first and three in the second but blew the game open with a seven run third inning.

Seth Spooner (3 IP, 1 H, 5 K’s), Eddie Clancy (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 K’s), and Trevor Dearing (0.2 IP, 0 H) combined on a two hitter.  Spooner picked up his second win of the season on the mound.

Offensively, Brady Kridler led the way for the Clippers.  Kridler was 3-3 on the day with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored.  Spooner added two hits including a triple and Clancy also was 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Bayden Pipoly and Alex Eusebio each doubled and Zachary Pleska added a triple for the winners.

Columbiana will finish off the week Friday when the Clippers travel to East Liverpool to take on the Potters.  With both teams off school the start time is scheduled for 2 PM.

WILDCATS BREAK OUT THE BROOMS

Struthers took the lead late in the game in a 5-1 victory over Girard on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Struthers batting in the top of the sixth when Alec Grzyb singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The Wildcats opened up scoring in the first inning, when Nate Freeland threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Girard tied things up at one when Jake Dohy grounded out, scoring one run.

Grzyb led things off on the mound for Struthers. Grzyb lasted five and a third innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out six.

Freeland was on the hill for Girard. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out ten.

Grzyb led Struthers with two hits in three at bats.

ROSACE SILENCES STRUTHERS LINEUP

GIRARD OH- Emily Rosace had all the right stuff on Wednesday for Girard, allowing zero runs and besting Struthers by a score of 10-0

Girard got things started in the first inning. Rosace drove in two when she doubled.

The Indians tallied five runs in the fourth inning.  Batters contributing to the big inning included Kaitlyn Culver, Abbie Rafferty, Rosace, and Allison Durkin, who all drove in runs.

One bright spot for Struthers was a single by Mileena Williams in the fourth inning.

Rosace was credited with the victory for Girard. The pitcher went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out nine.

Lexi Pirone took the loss for the Wildcats. The bulldog surrendered ten runs on ten hits over four innings, striking out one.

Girard tallied ten hits in the game. Rosace and Culver all managed multiple hits. Culver and Rosace each managed two hits to lead.

Williams led Struthers with one hit in one at bats.

STRUTHERS PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

STRUTHERS OH- Struthers coasted to an easy victory over Girard 9-2 on Tuesday to secure their first win of the young season.

Struthers got things moving in the first inning, when Drew Day grounded out, scoring one run.

The Wildcats tallied four runs in the fourth inning. Their big bats in the inning were led by a single by Day and a double by Chance Laczko.

Olindo Pezzone led the Wildcats to victory on the mound. The righty allowed two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out ten. Laczko and Ronnie Leonard entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Jake Dohy took the loss for Girard. Dohy went four innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out four.

Struthers totaled six hits in the game. Laczko and Day each collected multiple hits for Struthers Wildcats Varsity. Day and Laczko each collected two hits to lead.

Nate Freeland went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Girard in hits.

LAKEVIEW EARNS ANOTHER EXTRA INNING WIN

CORTLAND OH-  Lakeview defeated Girard 9-8 on Tuesday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at eight with Lakeview batting in the bottom of the eighth when Maggie Pavlansky singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Kylie Imes led the Bulldogs to victory by driving in four runs. Imes went 3-for-5 at the plate. Imes drove in runs on a home run in the second and a single in the fourth.

In the first inning, Girard got their offense started when Abbie Rafferty singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lakeview tied things up at eight when Raegan Schick doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

The Bulldogs put up four runs in the fourth inning. Their offense in the inning came from singles by Imes and Pavlansky and a double by Schick.

Schick earned the win for Lakeview. Schick surrendered zero runs on two hits over two and a third innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Emily Rosace was on the rubber for Girard. The bulldog allowed 14 hits and nine runs over seven innings, striking out one.

Ella Chadwick started the game for Lakeview. The bulldog went five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking one

Lakeview tallied one home run on the day. Imes went for the long ball in the second inning.

The Bulldogs collected 14 hits on the day. Imes, Schick, Reagan Price, Pavlansky, and Izzy Haines all managed multiple hits. Schick and Imes each collected three hits to lead the offense.

The Indians tallied ten hits in the game. Rafferty and Allison Durkin all collected multiple hits. Rafferty went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits.

GUARNIERI GETS 200TH WIN AS DRAGONS TAKE CARE OF GIRARD

NILES OH- Just a couple days into the baseball season, and we already have a major milestone reached. Nile’s head coach Mike Guarnieri is a legend in the Dragon baseball program. He’s put in the work, and now he has reached win number 200 in his career as the Dragons beat Girard 14-2 on Thursday night.

Leading the Niles offense was Kolton Christopher who went 3-5 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Zack Macik also had a great day at the plate going 4-5 with a RBI.

Andrew Huffman pitched 4 innings for the Dragons and gave up 0 runs on 2 hits and struck out 3.

Girard’s offense struggled to get things rolling. Evan award went 1-2 with a run scored. Kaison Lipka also went 1-2.

SPARTANS COME OUT OF THE GATES HOT

BOARDMAN OH- In their season debut, Boardman wasted no time getting a win. In a matchup with a tough Girard team, the Spartans controlled every facet of the game on their way to a 6-1 win.

Senior Madison Lester pitched a complete game scattering 5 hits,and allowing only 1 run. She also helped her cause at the plate going 1-2 on the night crushing the lady Spartans first long ball of the year over the CF fence adding 3 RBIS.

Jenna Olexa was masterful defensively, and also at the plate going 2-3 with a double and an rbi, Cassidy Bryan also played lights out defensively at first base and went 2-3 at the plate, Freshman Tori Strines went 2-3 with 4 stolen bases,Dana Haus went 2-4, Nadia Rawhneh added 2 walks, Junior Cami Goske went 1-3 and Junior Maddie Dravecky went 1-1.

The Lady Spartans are back in action tomorrow at home against Crestview.

GIRLS NE8 POSTSEASON HONORS ANNOUNCED

CANFIELD OH- Another season inside the NE8 has come and gone. The girls teams showcased a ton of talent that was spread out through all the teams. This week, the coaches came together to vote on which players deserved post season honors. From YSN, we congratulate all the players that were recognized by the league.

BRUNGARD REACHES 1000 IN TIGERS VICTORY

GIRARD OH- Springfield came into Tuesday night’s matchup with Girard carrying a perfect record, and a brand new MVAC crown. This game was going to test them against a higher division school, and act as a measuring stick for the Tigers going forward into the tournaments. They measured up pretty well. The Tigers rolled to a 61-35 win over Girard.

Springfield had 3 players in double figures to lead their offense. Adam Wharry put together a spectacular 24 point performance. Jake Joyce continues his positive impact on the offense with 14 points. Beau Brungard was able to add 1000 career points to his athletic resume. He only needed 2 points coming into the night, and he got into double figures with 10.

Gus Johnson put in 16 points for the Indians. Thomas Cardiero contributed 7 points to the cause.

Springfield has another non conference test on Friday as they hit the road to LaBrae to take on the Vikings.
