TIGERS GO BACK TO BACK IN MVAC

ATWATER OH- Springfield traveled to Waterloo Thursday night with a chance to win the MVAC Championship outright. The Tigers did not disappoint.

Playing a very defensive formation to take some pressure off back up keeper, Mya Argiro, the Tigers went up 3-0 before Waterloo scored to make it 3-1 at the half. Waterloo tied it up at 3 before Springfield made it 4-3. Kaila LaMorticella put in the game clinching goal before Waterloo scored once more with 1 minute remaining to make the final 5-4.

Gracie Venturella had a 3 goal hat trick and Brionna Holt had a goal for the Tigers. Springfield got assists from Holt and Sami Shafer. Argiro had a strong 11 saves for the Tigers.

Springfield finishes the season 12-2-2 (10-1-1 in the MVAC) to win the league title for the second straight year.

The Tigers play the winner of Columbiana and Brookfield next Thursday to start their tournament play.

WARRIORS CLINCH EIGHTH STRAIGHT EBC CROWN

BELOIT OH- The Lady Warriors clinched their 8th straight EBC title by defeating Salem on Wednesday night 1-0.

Chloe Dennison’s goal in the opening minutes was the game winner. Zoe Sanders recorded 4 saves in goal, and the defense recorded their 6th consecutive shutout.

Sam Moore had a good day in front of the net for Salem. She recorded 7 saves.

The Lady Warriors improve to 11-3-2. They host Harvey in a sectional tournament game on Monday 10/18 at 6pm.

CANFIELD MAKES IT TEN IN A ROW IN THE AAC

CANFIELD OH- The Cardinals girls soccer team has been the definition of dominate inside the AAC over the last decade. This season, although it took a battle down to the last conference game, the Cardinals won their tenth straight AAC title with a 1-0 win over Fitch.

Sabrina Goodrich found Hanna Wahib to score the lone goal of the game for Canfield. The Cardinals made life easy on their goalkeeper. Bayann Jadallah only needed one save to pitch a shutout.

The Cardinals are 13-1-1 and 7-0-1 in the AAC.

TIGERS TAKE HIGH SCORING AFFAIR

GARRETTSVILLE OH- Springfield made the long trip to J.A. Garfield High School Wednesday night and the Tigers got off the bus ready to play.

Gracie Venturella finished the first half with a hat trick (3 goals) and two assists. Brionna Holt added two goals and an assist and Ava Vecchione scored off an assist from Kaila LaMorticella.

Caitlin Cappelli had a strong 14 save night and Mya Argiro saved three for the Tigers.

Springfield improves to 11-2-2 on the season and will travel to Waterloo tomorrow night to end the regular season.

SALEM SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH MIKE BAILEY & SPECIAL GUEST MAX KEMATS

SALEM OH- The Quakers soccer program is at an all time high on both the boys, and girls side. And it’s no surprise they are both succeeding considering they are led by the same staff. Mike Bailey and his crew are in charge of both programs, and have both running in the right direction. The boys team is coming off a huge win against West Branch, and the girls is looking ahead to a big matchup with the Warriors. The EBC championship will be on the line, and it promises to be a heck of a game. The Lady Quakers have finished with more wins than any other team in program history.

Coach Bailey, and senior captain Max Kemats took the time out of the day to come in to the studio and be on Running Point this week. We talk with them about both programs, the culture of Salem soccer, and so much more. TIGERS SEND SENIORS OFF THE RIGHT WAY

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield hosted Brookfield Monday night as the Tigers celebrated their seniors.

Springfield trailed 2-0 early before Gracie Venturella put in her first of a three goal, hat trick, night. The Tigers still trailed 2-1 at the half. Springfield outscored Brookfield 5-1 in the second half as Venturella put in her other two goals. Kaila LaMorticella struck in two of her own and Brionna Holt added another goal for the Tigers. Peyton Kliem, Riley Blakeman, LaMorticella, Holt, and Venturella all had an assist and keeper Caitlin Cappelli had 9 saves for Springfield.

The Tigers improve to 10-2-2 on the season and will travel to J.A. Garfield high school on Wednesday for a 5:00 game.

FITCH CELEBRATES SENIORS WITH A WIN

AUSTINTOWN OH- The Fitch Falcons brought home a win on their senior night against Harding on Monday night 6-0

Senior Candace Krpicak led the Falcons with a hat trick scoring 3 goals. Madi Bucko chipped in with a pair of goals. Senior Mackenzie Hartman also found the back of the net. The other seniors recognized on the night were Miranda Ashley,Moira George, and Kristen Klaus.

Fitch’s next game is at home on Saturday hosting Badger.

CANFIELD GIRLS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH PHIL SIMONE

CANFIELD OH- The Canfield girls soccer program has had sustained success in the last decade. This year is no different, as the Cardinals have clinched at least a share of yet another AAC championship. It hasn’t mattered all too much that they’ve had to put some players in new positions. The Cardinals haven’t missed a beat, and have earned themselves a 12-1-0 record on the season. They look ahead to a match up at home against Boardman on Monday.

Head Coach Phil Simone has put in twenty plus years at Canfield. He took the time this week out of his busy schedule to talk to Anthony Hartwig about the season. They discuss some of the leaders on the team, his passion for soccer, and much more. You won’t want to miss Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner With Phil Simone.

SALEM RESPONDS WITH SHUTOUT OF REBELS

SALEM OH- On Monday, Salem suffered their first loss of the season against Howland. Their schedule didn’t get any easier, as a dangerous Crestview offense came to them on Wednesday. They were no match for Salem’s defense though, and the Quakers got back in the win column with the 4-0 win.

Rylee Hutton set the tone from the start. She scored a hat trick before the match even reached halftime. Mikaylnn Murphy also contributed a goal to the cause. Abby Perry collected a pair of assists.

Salem has a big matchup with West Branch on Wednesday.

SPRINGFIELD DIMS DOWN THE FLASHES

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield and Champion were matched up in a massive showdown on the pitch Monday night. Both teams were riding very successful seasons. The Tigers however, took down the Flashes 3-1 in what turned out to be a match that lived up to the billing.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead into the locker room. The first goal of the night was scored by Ava Vecchione. Then with about 23 minutes to go in the half, Gracie Venturella put one in. Champion came out of the break and cut the lead in half with a goal from Taylor Huhn. However, Gracie Venturella struck again with what turned out to be the game sealing goal, and her second of the night.

Springfield will hit the road and travel to Newton Falls on Wednesday. Champion will travel to Badger on Thursday.
