COLUMBIANA EDGES OUT QUAKERS

SALEM OH-

Columbiana built a seven-run lead in the sixth inning and then held off Salem’s charge for a 7-5 victory on Saturday. Salem scored five runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Rylie Troy, a error during Chase Toy’s at bat, a single by Dorothy Moore, and a single by Mack Zumbar.

Salem scored five runs in the sixth inning, but the Clippers still managed to pull out the victory. Salem offense in the inning was led by Troy, Toy, Moore, and Zumbar, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

The Clippers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Tori Long’s sac fly scored one run.

The Clippers put up three runs in the fourth inning. Julia Rapp and Long all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Long earned the win for the Clippers. The righthander went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out 11 and walking one. Ava Davanzo and Mackenzi Gamble entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Gamble recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Troy took the loss for Salem. The hurler allowed 15 hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out five.

Columbiana collected 15 hits. Gamble, Rapp, Maci Linhart, and Maria Malcomson all had multiple hits for Clippers. Linhart, Rapp, and Gamble all had three hits to lead.

SCHULTZ THROWS FIRST NO HITTER REBELS SWEEP TWIN BILL

COLUMBIANA OH-

GAME 1:

McKenna Schultz was brilliant in the circle on Saturday, as Schultz threw a no-hitter to lead Crestview past Memorial 17-0.

Crestview got things moving in the first inning. Schultz doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

The Rebels put up eight runs in the third inning. Rebel batters contributing to the big inning included Kaedyn Sutton, Karsyn Moore, Kayla Deily, Katie Lissi, Jensyn Seabrook, and Shianna Mathes, who all drove in runs.

Schultz was the winning pitcher for Crestview. Schultz went five innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out eight.

Candella took the loss for Memorial. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing 13 hits and 17 runs.

Crestview Softball collected 13 hits on the day. Brooke Brubaker, Moore, Seabrook, and Deily each managed multiple. Deily, Seabrook, Moore, and Brubaker all had two hits to lead Crestview.

GAME 2:

Crestview defeated Memorial 11-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Kaedyn Sutton induced a groundout from Ava Tovainik to finish off the game.

Sutton led Crestview to victory by driving in four runs. Sutton went 3-for-4 at the plate. Sutton drove in runs on a triple in the first, a double in the first, and a single in the second.

The Rebels got on the board in the first inning when Sutton tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

One bright spot for Memorial was a single by Tovarnak in the third inning.

Kayla Deily was the winning pitcher for Crestview. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out four and walking one.

Elash took the loss for Memorial. The hurler allowed nine hits and ten runs over two innings.

Sutton started the game for Crestview. The righthander went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking zero

The Rebels tallied 12 hits in the game. McKenna Schultz, Sutton, Karsyn Moore, and Alexis Smith each managed multiple hits for them. Sutton and Schultz all had three hits to lead Crestview.

Tovarnak led Memorial with one hit in two at bats.

CALLOW PUNCHES OUT 15 IN MCDONALD BLOWOUT

GIRARD OH-

Girard  had trouble keeping up with McDonald in a 14-0 loss on Saturday.

A single by Abbie Rafferty in the fifth inning was a positive for Girard.

Bri Callow led the McDonald to victory in the circle. The ace lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 15.

Emily Rosace took the loss for Girard. The righthander surrendered 11 runs on nine hits over three innings, striking out two.

Rafferty went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Girard in hits.

McDonald had ten hits in the game. Chelsea Sudol and Alivia Morrison each had multiple hits for McDonald. Sudol led McDonald with three hits in four at bats.

LEOPARDS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER

KEYSTONE OH- Louisville traveled to Keystone on Saturday to take them on along with McDowell in a three team event. The Leopards split the day, dropping the game to Keystone 11-1 and taking down McDowell 14-4.

GAME 1:

Lousiville watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-1 loss to Keystone on Saturday. Keystone took the lead on a double in the first inning.

The Leopards struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Keystone, giving up 11 runs.

Keystone fired up the offense in the first inning, when Jessica Gerhardinger doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Keystone scored five runs in the fifth inning. Their big inning was driven by a sac fly by Jessica Chapman , an error on a ball put in play by Kerrigan Williams, and a double by Ashley Wolfe.

Lily Cassell was the winning pitcher for Keystone. The fireballer lasted five innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven and walking one.

Cloie Ensley took the loss for Louisville. The pitcher allowed five hits and six runs over three innings.

Lauren Stillwagon led the Leopards with one hit in two at bats.

Keystone tallied nine hits. Gerhardinger and Kennedy Kerr each had multiple hits.

GAME 2:

Jenna Collins collected four hits in four at bats, as Louisville defeated McDowell 14-4 on Saturday. Collins doubled in the first, singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, and singled in the sixth.

The Leopards got things started in the first inning when Collins doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

Louisville put up five runs in the second inning. Matti Benson, Collins, and Lauren Stillwagon powered the big inning with RBIs.

Katie Heath got the win for the Leopards The lefthander allowed seven hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out two.

Alivia Soule took the loss for McDowell. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing 14 runs on 13 hits and striking out one.

Louisville collected 13 hits. Collins, Benson, and Kenzi Denzer each collected multiple hits. Collins went 4-4 at the plate to lead Louisville in hits.

McDowell tallied seven hits on the day. Meghan Kapp, Maggie Hoover, and Ally Leonard all collected multiple hits.

QUAKERS DROP HOME OPENER TO MINERVA

SALEM OH-

A large well scattered crowd (including alumni players-thanks) attended Salem’s 2021 home softball debut. Thanks to a great job by our maintenance crew the field was in great shape and so was the weather.

Rylie Troy pitched well in the loss striking out 8 and allowing just 2 earned runs. The defensive highlight of the game was a diving catch down the right field line by freshmen Lauryn Barton. Hannah Kelm was involved in 5 defensive chances with 0 errors. Jenna McClish made a nice catch on a screaming line drive to center.

Rylie Troy and Dorothy Moore each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Quakers offense. Chase Toy, Madalynn Workman and Bella Brant each singled. Leadoff hitter Hannah Kelm scored in the third straight game.

RIVERSIDE PUTS AN END TO FALCONS WIN STREAK

AUSTINTOWN OH- Austintown Fitch lost a tight contest to a very good Painesville Riverside team on Tuesday night 6-5. The loss ended Fitch’s win streak that they started the season on.

Riverside’s Amanda Kolar hit the go ahead RBI single in the top of the 7th to secure the win. Maren Kelly launched a 2 run HR for them as well.

Lydia Spalding continued her impressive start to the season at the dish going 3-4 with a double and a RBI. Elyssa Molody also had a strong night going 3-4 as well. Molody collected a RBI. Caitlin Mitchel was 1-2 with a RBI double.

Spalding got the start in the circle. She lasted 4 innings and struck out 8 batters.

RAIDERS RANSACK RED DRAGONS

CANFIELD OH-

South Range’s two pitchers didn’t allow a single hit, as the Raiders defeated McKinley 21-0 on Tuesday. Juli Stachowicz struck out Alaina Erwin to get the last out of the game.

South Range secured the victory thanks to 12 runs in the second inning. Kelly Szolek, Jamie Feren, Hannah Crouse, Taylor Smesko, Samantha Susany, and Stachowicz each had RBIs in the big inning.

South Range got things started in the first inning when Bree Kohler homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.

The Raiders put up 12 runs in the second inning. South Range Raiders Varsity put the pressure on, lead by singles by Szolek, Feren, Crouse, Stachowicz, and Alexis Angus, doubles by Smesko and Alyssa McElroy, and a fielder’s choice by Susany.

Stachowicz was the winning pitcher for South Range. The pitcher went three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out eight.

Isabella Roxford toed the rubber for McKinley. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing 20 hits and 21 runs while striking out one.

Kohler started the game for South Range. The righthander lasted two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero

South Range launched one home run on the day. Kohler went for the long ball in the first inning.

The Raiders collected 20 hits on the day. Susany, Reagan Irons, Kohler, Feren, Stachowicz, and Szolek all collected multiple hits for South Range Raiders Varsity. Szolek, Stachowicz, Feren, Kohler, Irons, and Susany each managed two hits.

LISBON SHUTS OUT TIGERS

WELLSVILLE OH-

Mya Emmerling didn’t allow a single run against Wellsville, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Lisbon to a 13-0 victory on Tuesday

Emmerling led the Blue Devils to victory by driving in five runs. Emmerling went 3-for-4 at the plate. Emmerling drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the fourth, and a double in the fifth.

In the first inning, Lisbon got their offense started. They scored one run when Emmerling singled.

The Blue Devils notched five runs in the first inning. Their big bats were led by Emmerling, McKenna Dailey, and Morgan Lively, all driving in runs in the frame.

Emmerling earned the win for the Blue Devils. The fireballer surrendered zero runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Lisbon saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Emmerling, Dailey, and Justyce Vrable each collected multiple hits. Emmerling led the way with three hits in four at bats.

MCDONALD HAS GREAT NIGHT AS POLAND SWEEPS WILDCATS

POLAND OH- Katie McDonald had a fantastic night on both sides of the field Tuesday night helping Poland complete a season sweep of Struthers with a 6-1 win.

McDonald got on base every time she went to the plate. She finished 2-2 with 2 HR’s and a walk. Both of her homers were solo shots. Emily Denny also had a solid night at the plate going 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Mary Brant went 1-3 but had a big 2 RBI double to spread the Poland lead.

McDonald was just as dominant in the circle as she was at the plate. She struck out 10 in her complete game. Her final line was 7.0 IP 3 H 0 ER 3 BB 10 K.

Nic Pezzone picked up the loss in the circle for Struthers. Her final line was 6.0 IP 7 H 6 ER 2 BB 10 K.

Poland returns to action Saturday morning as they host Howland. First pitch is at 11:00.

 

UNITED WINS SLUGFEST IN GAME 1 WITH BULLDOGS

EAST PALESTINE OH-

United earned a hard fought 14-13 win over East Palestine to begin league play tonight.  Trailing 13-7 going into the top of the 7th inning, United batted around and plated 7 runs then held East Palestine in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

Leading the Eagles were Tori Firth (3-5) with a double, Savannah Burton (double), and Colby Burton (Triple).

Firth pitched 6 innings to get the win with 12SO along the way.

The Eagles welcome the Bulldogs to Hanoverton tomorrow for another game.
