The Panthers would play classic Panther defense forcing multiple turnovers against the Ursuline Irish. The Irish were held scoreless the whole night. The Warren Harding Panthers(Raiders) win throwback night 34-0.

Warren Harding started their scoring early in the first quarter with a Sack Fumble in the endzone that was recovered by Defensive End Jabari Felton to give the Panthers(Raiders) the early lead, 7-0. After another costly fumble by the Irish, Warren Harding Quarterback Marcus Brown would find Wide Receiver Brandon Arnold in the back of the endzone for a 5-yard touchdown reception to increase the lead to 14-0. GAME OF INCHES, URSULINE FALLS SHORT AGAINST EAST

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Ursuline Fighting Irish traveled a few blocks down the street to Rayen Stadium to face the Youngstown East Golden Bears. The Golden Bears entered the contest looking to avenge their loss the week prior to the Niles McKinley Red Dragons. As for Ursuline, they were in search of their first win of the season.

Ursuline controlled the momentum in the first half, scoring the only 14 points of the half. The first touchdown came on third and long, as Daivon Jones made an 87-yard house call to put Ursuline up. The second score came off a perfect over-the-shoulder pass by Brady Shannon to Julian Johnson.

The second half was a Golden Bear affair. Eddie Bryant would go 56 yards to the end zone to put the Golden Bears on the board early in the third quarter. With several Ursuline miscues and missed opportunities, the Golden Bears found the end zone late in ten fourth to tie the game. Both teams took their shot at the win, but overtime was needed.

Both Ursuline and the Golden Bears would score in ten first overtime. The Golden Bears would punch the ball in yet again in double overtime. Ursuline took the field, and Shannon found Matthew Reardon in the end zone for a diving catch. Ursuline went for the win, and on a trick play, Reardon found James Phillips uncovered in the end zone; however, he was unable to keep himself inbounds.

Ursuline would fall 28-27 to the Golden Bears in a game for the ages. The Golden Bear faithful celebrated the hard-fought victory, while Ursuline’s followers were forced to wait another week.

Ursuline’s next test will take place at Mollenkopf Stadium in Warren, Ohio, as they face a longtime rival, the Warren G. Harding Raiders.

URSULINE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 3) WITH DAN REARDON

Coming off a tough loss to crosstown foe, Austintown Fitch, the Irish look to come out strong in week three against the Cougars of Lake Catholic.
YSN General Manager, Steve Leslie, sits down with Coach Reardon to talk about Ursuline Irish football and what they need to do to get in the win column in this week’s episode of Ursuline Football Coach’s Corner.

FITCH FIGHTS THROUGH IRISH

AUSTINTOWN, OH- There’s a special feeling in the air of Austintown.  The Fitch Falcons are on a mission and are doing it for their late leader, Coach Phil Annarella.  It has all Falcons on the same flight path, and that didn’t change last Friday night against Ursuline as the Falcons took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back, winning 27-7.

The dual-quarterback system gave Ursuline fits all night as Devin Sherwood and Nate Leskovac teamed up for 3 rushing touchdowns, and one through the air to Todd Simons in the second frame.

The Falcons racked up 91 yards through the air, and 270 yards on the ground.  The Irish failed to get their ground game rolling as they ended up with -31 yards on the night.

The lone highlight for the Irish was the much-anticipated connection of Brady Shannon to Matt Reardon for a 22-yard touchdown strike.

The Irish (0-2) will turn their focus to Mentor Lake Catholic, while Fitch (2-0) heads on the road to Glen Oak.
