GAULT REIGNS AS 2023 BIG DOG OF THE YEAR

COLUMBIANA, OHIO- The Baird Brother Big Dog of the Year is a big opportunity for student athletes to show their true leadership to their team and the community that they are apart of. The Baird Brother Big Dog Award is decided by local fans who want to show their appreciation of a player in their community. For athletes to be in consideration for the Big Dog of the Year Award, they have to win a weekly poll in the regular season and as well as winning two different sets of polls against athletes that have also won the award.

After tallying up all of the votes, the winner of 2023  Baird Brother Big Dog of the Year is Drew Gault from the Heartland Christian Lions. Drew Gault has been one of the true leaders for the Lions this year and he is greatly appreciated by the Columbiana community. Congratulations once again to Drew Gault on winning the 2023 Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Year!

CHANEY KEEPS UP TOURNAMENT SUCCESS

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –

Jason Hewlett and Clifton Scott would provide double doubles to propel the Chaney Cowboys (17-8) past the Orange Lions (8-17) and into the Division II – Northeast District 1 semi-finals.

It was all gas no brake from the jump for the three time defending district champion Chaney Cowboys. Leading the charge for the Red and White offensively in the first was football standout and Michigan commit, Jason Hewlett. The 6 foot 4 senior forward accounted for fifteen of the Cowboys twenty-three points in the first. Chaney would stifle Orange defensively, allowing just five points in the quarter.

The second saw the teams jostle at both ends. The Lions provided more offensively tallying ten points in the second, while the Cowboys would struggle offensively after Hewlett would pick up three consecutive fouls in less than a minute forcing him to the bench. Chaney would outscore Orange by two to take a 20 point lead into the break.

Breaking the half, Chaney picked up where they had left off back in the first quarter, dominating offensively and smothering Orange at the other end. Clifton Scott would lead the Cowboys in thethird with four made baskets from the inside while Hewlett would add four more, and Josiah Gonzalez had his highest scoring quarter of the night with five.

Orange would begin the fourth quarter trailing by thirty-four and staring a season ending loss. The Lions would provide their largest scoring quarter of the night with sixteen fourth quarter points, led by Ernest Pryor’s three made shots from beyond the arc. Clifton Scott would end the fourth with two more shots from inside, and ½ from the charity stripe falling a point shy of twenty, but still giving the Cowboys an easy victory, 71-38.

MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE!

PEPPER PIKE OH- No matter what sport you’re talking about, or what team you watch, everyone needs a strong captain. Ice hockey is no exception. With Orange, hockey is a sport that is tracking more and more interest inside the school system. This has to do with the team’s success for sure, but the team wouldn’t be successful with out the steadfast captains that it features. One of those captains is Max Sigel.

Max runs the middle of the lions formation. He gets the opportunity to contribute to his teams in many different ways. Yes he can score himself, after the first 6 games he had already acquired 4 goals, but he also is a solid passer. In fact Max says that passing has always been a passion of his.  It’s an art form to be able to pass well on the ice. Max has definitely put in the work to be an artist with the assists. Along with those 4 goals in the first 6 matches, Sigel also had 8 assists.  That means he had his hand in 12 goals.  You mix all of that with his exceptional defense, and his in unwavering positive attitude and you get a captain fit to steer any team to victory.

Max was kind enough to come on to YSN’s Running Point last week to talk about his ice hockey career at Orange. He chatted with Anthony Hartwig and Scotty Mincher about his passion for the sport, who some of his role models are, and much more. FELLINGER FEELS COOL ON THE ICE

PEPPER PIKE OH- It’s about time we jump into the fantastic world of Ice Hockey. With the addition of Orange to the YSN family comes an addition of a very good hockey team. The Lions rampage through their opponents. In a sport that only has around 80 teams in the whole state of Ohio, you can make a sure bet that the talent is dense.  Orange has a ton of talent skating on the ice. One of their captains Dillon Fellinger has taken the season by storm.

Through six games, Fellinger has scored 8 goals. Even if you’re not great at math you can figure out it’s good when you have more goals than games played. Orange’s offense overwhelms their opponents and Dillon is a big reason why. But don’t be fooled he’s also a great facilitator. Dillon has 3 assists to go along with his 8 goals.

Dillon took the time to chat with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig and Scotty Mincher on our talk show Running Point this week. They talk about his love for the sport of hockey, the development of the Orange program, and so much more. Check out the first ever Orange Ice Hockey Player Profile only on YSN.
