BLUE DEVILS REMAIN UNBEATEN

SEBRING OH- The Mcdonald Blue Devils showed everyone why they are the #5 ranked team in Ohio with a 79-53 victory over the visiting Sebring Trojans Tuesday.

9 Blue Devil players reached the scoring book with 6 Devils scoring in double-digits. A Lot of scoring from beyond the arc with Sebring netting 9 3-pointers and the Blue Devils canning 11 threes.

Miles Culp was the scoring leader for McDonald with 16 points.Frankie Lozoya paced Sebring with a game high 18 points. The win improves McDonald to a perfect 18-0 and 12-0 in the MVAC and will travel to Springfield to take on the 11-3 and 8-1 in league play Tigers in what should be a WAR.

The Blue Devils beat the Tigers back in early January with a buzzer-beater 3 from Culp to win 65-62. The Trojans drop to 5-14 and will host Mineral Ridge on Friday.

BLUE DEVILS DEMOLISH SEBRING

The McDonald  Blue Devils girls hoops team had little trouble in defeating the Sebring Trojans 77-19 in action on Monday night.

Nine Blue Devil players reached the scoring column with Molly Howard canning 19 points followed by Sophia Costantino with 16, Lucia Wolford hitting for 15 points and Maddy Howard scoring 12 points.

Sebring’s Cazhia Jackson led her team with 9 points. The victory moves McDonald to 12-2 while Sebring drops to 4-12 on the campaign.

GOVERNOR GRABS 1,000 MCDONALD GRABS WIN

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Rams Senior Austin Governor cane in to Friday night’s matchup with undefeated McDonald with aspirations of joining the 1,000 point club. Austin did just that as climbed to the top as he scored 19 points in the game. McDonald still picked up the win 69-54.

Jake Portolese led the Blue Devils with 21 points on the night. Eli Street wasn’t too far behind him as he added 19 points. Miles Culp was also in double figures with 12 points. Dom Carkido added 11 to the Blue Devil offense.

Triston Weiss led the Rams with 24 points. Governor added 19 points, including his 1,000th of his career.

Both teams will play two games in two days as McDonald hosts Western Reserve, and Mineral Ridge travels to Lowellville.

COSTANTINO REACHES MILESTONE

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Talented senior Sophia Constantino hit the 1000 point milestone scoring 22 points to lead her McDonald Blue Devils to a victory over the Springfield Tigers 66-37.

The Blue Devils won the battle of the quarters as they out-scored the Tigers in all 4 periods. McDonald dropped in 6 3-points in the contest with Constantino nailing 2 of them. Taylor Tuchek had 12 points and Molly Howard added 10 points for the 13-2 McDonald squad.

The Tigers were paced  with 20 points from Jacey Mullen. The YSN team wants to say congratulations to Sophia Constantino for joining the 1000 point club. Way to go !!!!

MCDONALD BLUE DEVILS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 3) WITH JAMES FRANCESCHELLI

MCDONALD, OH – The McDonald Blue Devils and head coach, Jimmy Franceschelli, seem to be playing near-perfect basketball right now as they currently 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the MVAC! The Blue Devils will look to put their winning streak on the line this week as they will travel to their “neighbors” to take on the Mineral Ridge Rams on Friday night!

YSN’s own, D.J. Yokley, was able to sit down with Coach Franceschelli this week via video chat to discuss the fourteen game winning streak, the huge win over Waterloo last week, his outlook for the conference match up Friday with the Rams, and what the Blue Devils have to do to keep taking care of business and keep winning!

MCDONALD PULLS OUT ANOTHER THRILLER

ATWATER OH- McDonald’s season so far has not been for the faint of heart. Their 13-0 record has come with plenty of drama, and last second heroics. Last Saturday they won by three against Waterloo at home, and Friday night on the road, the story was much of the same. McDonald won by nearly the same score, escaping Waterloo with a 67-64 victory.

It was Miles Culp that shined the brightest for the Blue Devils this time around. He led the offense with 29 points. Jake Portolese contributed a strong 19 points, including some important free throws down the stretch. Dom Carkido battled foul trouble throughout the night but still managed to get in to double figures with 10.

Kyle Shockley found a lot of success for the Vikings. He scored a game-high 31 points. Luke Simons scored 15 points off the bench in the first half and finished with 17.

McDonald is scheduled to travel to Heartland Christian on Tuesday as they try to stay undefeated. Waterloo stays home to host Warren JFK on Tuesday.

MCDONALD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MIKE KOLLAR

MCDONALD OH- Mike Kollar is the interim head coach of the McDonald Blue Devils for the moment as Tony Matisi is away. However, he says the girls play every night for their coach and when he finally got back to practice it was a welcomed sight. McDonald is 1-1 on the week, dropping a three point contest against West Branch, and dominating Mineral Ridge.

MCDONALD VICTORIOUS IN MATISI’S RETURN

MINERAL RIDGE OH- McDonald head coach Tony Matisi made his return to the sideline on Thursday night. Nine different Blue Devils made the scoring book as the Visiting McDonald squad beat rival Mineral Ridge Rams 81-24.

McDonald’s Molly Howard took home high scoring honors with 27 points and her teammates Sophia Contantino had 15 points and Luck Wolford added 12 points.

The Rams Candice Miller led her team with 9 points. Next up for hee 10-2 Blue Devils is a big game Saturday night against Western Reserve. The 0-11 Rams will be seeking their 1st win of the season  Monday against Springfield.

WEST BRANCH WINS MARQUEE MATCHUP

MCDONALD OH- West Branch Hot the road on Monday night for a big non conference match up against McDonald, one of the division 4 favorites to win a district. The Warriors dominated the first half, but had to hang on after a strong McDonald comeback. The Warriors dodged a last second shot and escaped with a 54-51 win.

Sophie Gregory, and Emma Egli both led the Warriors in points with 13. Jillian Pidgeon was also in double figures for West Branch with 10 points.

Maddy Howard scored 15 points to pace the Blue Devils. Molly Howard wasn’t far behind her scoring 11. Taylor Tuchek contributed 10 points to the Blue Devils cause.

West Branch hits the road again on Saturday as they travel to Canton South. McDonald will look to bounce back Saturday as they have their second matchup of the season with Western Reserve.

BLUE DEVILS WASH OUT WATERLOO

ATWATER OH- McDonald knew coming in how fast of a start Waterloo had on Monday against Springfield, and they were not having it. After holding the Vikings to just 4 first quarter points, the Blue Devils rolled to a 79-42 win over Waterloo.

Molly Howard was rolling on all cylinders, she led McDonald with 29 points. Sophia Constantino also had a strong performance dropping 24. Taylor Tuchek added 8.

Waterloo did get two players in to double figures, Brooke Waldeck led the way with 21. Impressive freshman Kaira English contributed 11.

McDonald stays in the league Saturday as they travel to Lowellville. Waterloo has a non conference game Saturday against Newton Falls
