MINERAL RIDGE BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH ANTHONY RAGOZINE

MINERAL RIDGE, OHIO- The Mineral Ridge Rams baseball team is trying to fill a void from last season as they had a lot of seniors depart. Head Coach  Anthony Ragozine is confident in his group of young men as he has a few surprises during the early practices and scrimmages and can not wait for his team to start the regular season. Coach Ragozine and his team will prepare to begin their season against Western Reserve.

Ragozine had the time to talk to YSN’s Matt Morrison about what he expects from his team this season and as well as the few surprises that he has had so far during the first few weeks of practice. Check out this exclusive interview on YSN!

RAMS RUN OUT OF STEAM AGAINST MAPLEWOOD

MINERAL RIDGE, OHIO- The Mineral Ridge Rams were looking to end the regular season on a high note as they took on the visiting Maplewood Rockets.

The Rams were led by Jon Rozzi, with 12 points and Elias Clarke with 11 points. The Rockets led the Rams at the half 33-24. The Rockets came out of the half on fire going up as much as 18 points, but the Rams would not go away quietly as they finished the third quarter strong to only be down 54-43. The Rockets were led by Alex Donaldson, with 27 points and by Tom Dahmen, with 21 points and the Rockets erased any chance of a comeback by the Rams with some quick in transition baskets to win 80-64.

The Rams will begin tournament play when they take on Mentor Lake Catholic on Tuesday.

RIDGE SPLITS SEASON SERIES WITH BLUE JAYS

MINERAL RIDGE, OHIO- The Mineral Ridge Rams hosted the Jackson-Milton Bluejays, in what was a nail biter of a game. The Rams got off to the hot start first and after a comeback by the Bluejays, the Rams led 29-22 at the half.

The Rams were led in scoring by Chase Moore, with 17, Jordan Moore, with 15, and Jon Rozzi, with 14.

Aaren Romigh led the Bluejays with 33 points and kept the Bluejays close to the Rams. The Rams were lifted by Chase Moore, who made 5 clutch free throws throughout the fourth quarter to secure the 65-59.

The Rams will try and finish the season strong with a two game home stand that starts Tuesday when they take on United. Jackson-Milton will also take on United, but on Monday night.

ROCKETS FLY AWAY WITH CONFERENCE CROWN

LOWELLVILLE OH- Lowellville beat Mineral Ridge 81-53 in their 9th straight win to get the season sweep on the Rams and clinch the MVAC-Scarlet title Tuesday night. Lowellville advances to 18-1 and is 13-0 in conference play this season.

Both of Lowellville’s 1000 point-scorers led the way, as Anthony Lucente had 26 points and Vinny Ballone finished with 14. Brady Bunofsky also had 9, and Lowellville had 11 different scorers in what was a great team effort offensively.

Lowellville will continue their league schedule on Friday as they host Waterloo. Mineral Ridge will get back to work on Friday as well as they host Jackson Milton.

WESTERN RESERVE GETS SIDELINED BY THE RAMS

MINERAL RIDGE OH- The Lady Rams defended home court on Thursday night and defeated the Western Reserve Blue Devils 50-48. The Lady Rams were lead by Ava Hulett with 18 points and Olivia Booth with 14. The Lady Rams played tough defense the whole night and are playing their best basketball down the stretch.

Sam Aulet 3 points

Neri Benitez 3 points

Senior Night for the Lady Rams is this Monday against Sebring. Western Reserve will travel to Springfield on Monday to try and give the Tigers their first loss in the conference.

TIGERS ON THE PROWL

MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio –

Seandelle Gardner’s 24 points off the bench led the Springfield Tigers (8-6) to their fifth road victory of the season and a season sweep of Mineral Ridge (0-15).

In a first quarter that saw three lead changes and two ties, the Rams started the game hot. Trailing by a bucket to start, Ridge was able to string together a 7-0 run to take the lead. After the Tigers would fight back to draw the game even, the Rams would respond again with a 5-0 run. Springfield would go on to outscore Ridge 11-8 to end the quarter and take their first lead since the opening bucket of the game to end the period.

The second quarter saw Springfield stay red hot while the Rams cooled off. Led by Connor Hudran’s seven points in the quarter, Springfield outscored Ridge 20-8 to take a thirteen-point lead into the break.

The second half saw more of the same as the Tigers continued to dominate and the Rams struggled to keep pace. Eight different Springfield players would score in the half to help the Tigers break seventy and head back to New Middletown with the victory 72-50.

WHAT’S NEXT –

Springfield: Now winners of their last three, the Springfield Tigers will travel to Lowellville Friday night for a matchup against the top dog in the MVAC – Scarlet. The Lowellville Rockets (14-1) defeated the Tigers in New Middletown back on December 20th by a score of 47-33 and carry a five-game winning streak.

Mineral Ridge: Still winless on the season, the Rams will play host to the Western Reserve Blue Devils (7-9) this coming Friday. The two conference foes have already faced off once this season coming back on December 20th, a matchup won by the Blue Devils in Berlin 61-57.

TIGERS CONTINUE TO BE THE CLASS OF THE MVAC

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- It was another day, and another dominating performance inside the MVAC on Monday for Springfield.  They traveled to Mineral Ridge for their second matchup with the Rams of the season. The contest was all Springfield from the jump as they strutted to a 55-33 win.

The Tigers had 7 players get in on the scoring on the night. They were led by Jacey Mullen who kept on shining with a 14 point game.  Ava Vecchione was also in double figures with 13. Madi Lesnak and Jameka Brungard both added 8 points to the offense.   Ava Hulett was the leading scorer for Mineral Ridge finishing with 13 points.

Springfiels keeps going on their journey Thursday as they travel to Lowellville.  Mineral Ridge will try and bounce back as they host Western Reserve on Thursday.

MINERAL RIDGE WITH SECOND NAIL BITING WIN OF THE WEEK

MCDONALD, OH- The Mineral Ridge Rams girls basketball team has been battle tested for close contests after picking up their second one point victory of the week. On Monday, the Rams got past LaBrae by one point and last night they defeated the Blue Devils 40-39.

Mineral Ridge had a small lead to 11-8 after the first quarter, until the Blue Devils defense clamped down to hold Mineral Ridge to just four points in the second quarter, taking a 21-15 lead at the half. McDonald led 33-29 at the end of third quarter, but the Rams made three clutch free-throws down the stretch to win a tight one by a final of 40-39.

Mineral Ridge is 8-8 on the season, while the heart-breaker puts McDonald at 6-9. Olivia Booth led Mineral Ridge with 15 points, while McDonald was paced by Alivia Morrison who scored 14 points with 7 points coming from the charity stripe.

RAMS SCRAPE PAST VIKINGS IN MVAC PLAY

MINERAL RIDGE, OH- The Mineral Ridge Rams and the LaBrae Vikings met on Monday night in an MVAC scarlet vs gray match-up. The contest was neck and neck the entire way, but the Rams held on defensively in the fourth quarter to get past LaBrae. The Rams and Vikings were tied up at 24 heading into the locker room at halftime, but the Rams came out in the third and outscored LaBrae by just two points to lead 34-32 after three quarters. It was a nail bitter in the fourth quarter as the Rams held grown defensively to pick up the win by a final of 46-45.

The Rams were led by Olivia Booth who had 16 points, while Ava Hulett was right behind with 15 points. Those two players combined for 67 percent of the points on Monday night. Also contributing players for the Rams were Brooklyn Geraldi who scored five points and Gianna Gilbert with four points.

Mineral Ridge improved to 7-8 on the season after the victory, while LaBrae drops to 3-12. The Rams will travel to McDonald (5-8) on Thursday night, while the Vikings host Newton Falls (6-7) on Thursday night.

BLUE JAYS BENCH COMES THROUGH

NORTH JACKSON OH- The depth of Jackson Milton was put to the test Friday night. With Mineral Ridge in the house, the Blue Jays dealt with Aaren Romigh being unavailable and a couple of in game injuries.  The bench of the Blue Jays came through for them though as they fought their way to a 59-49 win.

Leading the Jays was the tandem of Aiden Stanke, and Ryen Romigh.  They both paved the way with 18 points.  Edmund Gursky was able to add 6 to the cause.

Mineral Ridge was led by Trey Rigley who gave everything he had in a game-high 20 point effort.  Tristan Valley was also in double figures finishing with 11 points.

Both teams venture out of the MVAC on Tuesday as Mineral Ridge hosts Mooney, and Jackson Milton welcomes in United.
