NEVER A QUESTION WHY MADDY GETS IT DONE

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Mineral Ridge might have a younger roster on the softball field this year, but one constant over the years for their program has been now senior Maddy Ylonen.  Maddy has been doing this softball thing at a high level for a while now. She has been Mineral Ridge’s representative at the YSN All Star Game two years in a row.  Now in her final campaign, she aims to leave a lasting legacy on the Rams that will be felt for years to come.  Maddy has been able to do whatever the team needs her to do over the years. She contributes a ton at the plate, she has played a couple different positions on the field, and spends her fair share of time in the circle eating innings for the Rams staff.  That is something that every young player on the team can be inspired by. There’s nothing better for a coach than a versatile player.  Maddy has taught everyone what it means to go above and beyond.

Ylonen is absolutely mashing at the plate this season. She is currently hitting .611 at the plate for the Rams. With 1 home run, 5 doubles, and 23 RBI Ylonen has proven just how productive she can be. Her slugging percentage is .833.  Maybe the most impressive stat for Ylonen though is that she has yet to strike out this season in 36 at bats.  When you constantly put the ball in play, good things are going to happen.

Ylonen joined YSN’s Jake Sylak at the Post Office Pub to talk about her incredible career at Mineral Ridge. She talks about leading this program, she reflects on her time with the Rams, and so much more. Check out the latest Mineral Ridge Softball Player Profile only on YSN!

YOU WONT RUN THROUGH THIS WALL

MINERAL RIDGE OH- The transition between sophomore and junior year is usually a big step in leadership and responsibility.  For Mineral Ridge junior Aaliyah Wall she has grown into one of the biggest leaders on the team. For a roster on the younger side, the Rams lead on their leadership where they get it. Wall patrols the hot corner, and makes some of the toughest plays you can make on a softball diamond. It’s not hard to have respect for a softball third baseman. They are the ones that charge a batter from 45 feet away. They call it the hot corner for a reason.  Wall has racked up a lot of accomplishments in her career at Mineral Ridge already and now as a junior her next goals are square in her sights.

Wall is off to an incredible start at the plate as well for the Rams. The junior third baseman is hitting .588 which currently ranks 2nd on the team.  She has hit 1 home run and knocked in 5 RBI in 8 games played.  Wall’s on base percentage is above .600.  Wall has a fielding percentage of .899 and has only made 2 errors so far this season.

YSN’s Jake Sylak caught up with Wall at the Post Office Pub to talk about her career. They talk about the step into leadership, the accomplishments that Wall is most proud of, and so much more. Check out the latest Mineral Ridge Softball Player Profile only on YSN.

MEROLILLO MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Mineral Ridge has a history of success inside their softball program. Racking up a ton of wins over the years doesn’t come east. One of the consistent things about their teams is they always remain strong in the circle. Now here in 2023 they bring in another young arm that solidified the circle for a couple of years to come. Making the difference for the Rams this season is Lilly Merolillo.  Lilly is triple sport athlete and has taken lessons from each program she’s spent time in. The success of the volleyball team has shown her a winning standard and work ethic, and the turnaround of the basketball program has shown her how to be gritty and determined. Both of these aspects are important in the sport of softball. That’s why you see Lilly have such a strong mindset.

Lilly joined YSN’s Jake Sylak at the Post Office Pub to talk about her year as an athlete at Mineral Ridge. They talk about what she’s learned from each sport, how she’s been able to step into a big role on the team, and so much more. Check out the latest Mineral Ridge Player Profile only on YSN!

A CATCHER TO DYE FOR

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Having a fantastic backstop is a key in making a successful battery.  If you have that, you’re one step closer to being a dominant team. Often the most overlooked position on the field, catching is not built for everyone. You have to do the dirty work, and be a great leader while doing it. Mineral Ridge has a solid backstop in Kelcee Dye that elevates their defense to a new level.

Along with her great catching attributes, Dye also brings a hot bat to the lineup. Early in the season she is hitting .500.  She has smacked 4 doubles, and knocked in 5 RBI so far.  Dye has yet to make an error this season proving how reliable she is behind the plate.

YSN’s Jake Sylak took the time to catch up with the Rams stand out. They talk about coming into a new season, the Rams program, and much more. Check out the latest Mineral Ridge Softball Player Profile only on YSN.
